  • Strawberries: In addition to being a rich source of antioxidants, strawberries are also packed with fiber, which is essential for digestive health and helps us maintain the feeling of satiation after a meal (2.9 g of fiber in one cup of strawberries). One cup of strawberries contains around 120% of the daily value of vitamin C (84 mg of vitamin C). This important vitamin is a strong antioxidant that protects the body from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin C is also needed for good skin and connective tissue maintenance. It helps the body generate collagen, the protein responsible for the suppleness of the skin.

Making the Perfect Smoothie

This smoothie is super simple and easy to make. This recipe is as simple as adding all the ingredients to your blender and blending on high until the mixture is smooth.

Ingredients to Blend

  • 2 cups of frozen strawberries
  • 2 cups of frozen pineapple
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Yogurt
  • Milk
  • Sweetener (optional)
  • Mint (optional)

Instructions

  1. Simply place all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth.
  2. Once everything is blended smoothly, pour the smoothie into a glass and garnish with a strawberry slice and a pineapple wedge.
  3. Add the liquid first - add your liquid to the base of the blender first.
  4. Blend everything until smooth and creamy.

If you’re using frozen fruits, it’s best to use a high-powdered blender to achieve that perfectly smooth consistency.

Tips and Variations

  • Fresh or Frozen? For an icy cold smoothie that tastes almost like a sorbet, use frozen pineapple and frozen strawberries. In the following recipe, we are going to be using frozen fruit but you can use fresh fruit if you would prefer. If you choose to use fresh fruit instead of frozen, add in a cup of ice to turn your ingredients into a smoothie instead of juice. If you’re using only fresh fruits, you can mix in some ice cubes for a more refreshing drink.
  • Additions for Health: Want to meet your macros or protein intake? Add a couple of scoops of protein to your smoothie. Unflavored or vanilla protein powder is the best one to use for this fruit smoothie. If you have never added hemp seeds to your smoothie - here is your perfect opportunity. Hemp seeds are packed with healthy fats like omega-3 and omega-6 which help with reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. Hemp seeds don’t have a distinct flavor so it’s perfect to add to any smoothie for added health benefits. Chia seeds are also a great addition to any smoothie. This incredible plant-based protein is an excellent source of fiber, helps to control blood sugar, increases your heart help with omega-3s, and is high in calcium.
  • Liquid Choices: While this recipe uses almond milk it is easily interchangeable with any of your favorite alternative nut milk. Besides almond milk oat milk, cashew milk, or even coconut milk will be great alternatives to use in this smoothie. You may use whole milk, skim milk, or low-fat milk. Plant-based milks such as coconut milk, soy milk, cashew milk, oat milk, and almond milk also work well in this recipe.
  • Sweetness: Depending on the sweetness of the strawberries and pineapple, honey or sugar may be added to or omitted from the smoothie. Additionally, maple syrup and agave nectar may be utilized. Make it sweeter or less sweet - you can always add a touch of maple syrup (or honey!) to this smoothie to make it sweeter if you feel like it’s necessary. I don’t typically find the need to add sweetener to this smoothie.
  • Greens: Sneak in some leafy greens, like spinach or kale, for an added nutrient boost without compromising the fruity flavors.
  • Dairy Alternatives: Simply substitute banana, whipped cream, or coconut milk for the yogurt. All three contribute flavor to the smoothie as well as a creamy texture.

Additional Tips

  • Ditch the ice - if you typically add a ton of ice to your smoothies it may be tempting to add it to this one but trust me you do not need it. Just use frozen strawberries and pineapple instead to keep things cold and creamy.
  • Swap the milk - swap the almond milk for coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or even whole milk if you prefer.

How to Store

This strawberry pineapple smoothie tastes best when freshly made. As most smoothies, it’s best enjoyed right away, especially if you’ve used frozen fruits.

  • Refrigerating: However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When consuming again, shake well and then drink. You can keep it in the fridge for a few hours, but it won’t be as thick and refreshing, and separation may occur.
  • Freezing: By freezing this smoothie, its shelf life may be extended to around 3 months. Additionally, you should leave roughly 1 inch of headspace to allow for the smoothie’s growth as it freezes. Yes, you can freeze strawberry pineapple smoothies! Place them in a jar (make sure you leave head space for expansion!), zip-top bag, or other airtight container and freeze them for up to 3 months.

How to Tell If A Pineapple Is Bad

The first thing to consider is how long your pineapple has been sitting since you purchased it. The rate at which pineapple degrades also depends on storage conditions.

The fruit has a maximum shelf life of 2 - 3 days at room temperature and 4 - 5 days in the refrigerator.

Another way is to use your senses. When a pineapple begins to smell, becomes very mushy to the touch or becomes dark brown, it is often past its prime.
