Jordan Smith’s weight loss story is a testament to resilience, transformation, and redefining what it means to live a healthy life. The soulful crooner, who captured hearts on The Voice Season 9, didn’t just win a singing competition-he reinvented himself. His journey toward better health has resonated with fans, and it’s not hard to see why. As a public figure, Jordan’s transformation is powerful not only for its physical changes but also for the mental and emotional growth he has undergone.
The Turning Point
Jordan Smith, known for his incredible voice and his standout performance on The Voice, has had his share of struggles, both personal and public. For years, he battled with his weight, which had become a constant source of frustration. At his heaviest, Jordan weighed around 300 pounds, which affected more than just his physical health. “I was tired,” Jordan recalls, reflecting on his life before starting his weight loss journey.
It wasn’t an overnight decision, but something eventually clicked for Jordan. The turning point came when he realized that in order to continue performing at his best and to embrace his true potential, he needed to make a change-not just for his career but for his overall health and well-being. “I wasn’t living the way I should have been." At 300 pounds, Jordan knew that his current lifestyle was unsustainable, not just for his health but for his happiness. He was facing a choice: continue living the way he had, or make the change to live healthier, happier, and more energized.
Imagine standing in the spotlight, your voice soaring, but feeling weighed down-literally and figuratively. That was Jordan Smith at his heaviest, tipping the scales at 300 pounds. “I was tired,” he shared in a candid interview, reflecting on his life before his transformation. “Tired of feeling out of control and tired of hiding behind my size.” The Kentucky native, known for his powerful vocals, faced a turning point when the physical and emotional toll of his weight became undeniable. Jordan’s struggles weren’t just about the number on the scale. The mental strain of self-doubt and the demands of a music career added up. “I was always in the spotlight, and that made it harder,” he admitted. But instead of letting it define him, he used it as fuel.
Embracing a Sustainable Approach
Jordan didn’t jump into an extreme diet or some quick-fix solution. Instead, he embraced a more sustainable and balanced approach to weight loss. Clean Eating
Jordan started by focusing on a clean, nutrient-dense diet. He cut out processed foods, refined sugars, and fast food, opting instead for organic, whole foods. “The key for me was eliminating the junk,” he shares. He began incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins into his meals. But Jordan’s weight loss journey wasn’t about depriving himself; it was about finding balance.
So, how does a busy musician overhaul his lifestyle? For Jordan, it started with food. “I had to work on my relationship with food,” he explained. “I stopped seeing it as the enemy and started seeing it as fuel.” He didn’t chase fad diets or quick fixes. Instead, he teamed up with a nutritionist to craft a balanced meal plan packed with whole foods-think fresh fruits, vibrant veggies, and lean proteins like grilled chicken or fish. “I cut out processed foods, but I wasn’t starving myself,” he said. Portion control became his mantra, allowing him to enjoy meals without guilt. “I learned I could still have my favorite foods, just in smaller amounts,” he shared with a smile.
The Power of Exercise
Exercise was another crucial aspect of Jordan’s transformation. Initially, he didn’t jump into intense gym routines or long hours of cardio. Instead, Jordan focused on consistency. One of the activities that Jordan found particularly helpful was walking. He made it a daily habit to walk at least 10,000 steps. “It wasn’t about being perfect right away. It was about moving my body and getting used to being active,” Jordan explains.
Exercise was another game-changer for Jordan. “I wasn’t trying to become a gym rat,” he laughed. “It was about finding what worked for me.” His routine was practical and doable: daily walks, resistance exercises, and light weightlifting. “I started with small steps every day,” he said.
Mental Shift
Perhaps the most important shift in Jordan’s weight loss journey was his change in mindset. He recognized that lasting transformation wasn’t just about what he ate or how much he worked out. Jordan admits, “I had to work on my relationship with food. I had to stop seeing it as the enemy and start seeing it as fuel.” He also credits a more positive self-image for helping him push through difficult moments.

What matters is how I feel inside.” This shift in mindset was transformative. He embraced self-acceptance, letting go of the shame tied to his past habits. His journey also sparked a broader conversation about body image. “I want to show people that change is possible, no matter where you start,” he told fans.
The Results and Continued Commitment
Over the course of two years, Jordan lost an impressive 100 pounds, bringing his weight down to around 200 pounds. This monumental weight loss was not only a physical transformation but an emotional one. “I feel like a new person." The results? A staggering 100-pound weight loss that left him feeling stronger and more energized. “I’ve never felt more confident performing,” he told fans after his 2022 American Song Contest performance. His newfound physical strength translated into a dynamic stage presence, wowing audiences with both his voice and his energy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a lifelong commitment, and he remains committed to his new routine. “I think the most important thing I’ve learned is that it’s about balance,” he shares. Jordan continues to prioritize his health by maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise routine, and keeping a positive mindset.
Let’s be honest-weight loss isn’t a straight line. Jordan faced his share of challenges, from cravings to days when motivation dipped. “There were days I didn’t want to work out or when I slipped up on my diet,” he admitted. “But the key was not to quit.” His secret weapon? Self-compassion. Instead of beating himself up, he focused on small wins and getting back on track. “It’s okay to have a bad day,” he said. His support system-family, friends, and fans-played a huge role. “My wife, Kristen, was my rock,” he shared, crediting his 2016 bride for cheering him on. Building Momentum Through Small Wins
People often ask, "How did you do it?" The truth is, there are no shortcuts. It’s hard work, discipline, and-most importantly- building on small wins - building momentum. Numerous crash diets and programs had failed over the previous 10+ years. Nothing stuck, nothing lasted, nothing was sustainable.
The journey started by just committing to 3 days a week at the gym. No other major life changes. But that small commitment built momentum, and soon enough, the routine was at the gym 5 days a week. That momentum led to cutting out fast food, and about 8 months after starting the journey , tackled the #75Hard program (shoutout to Anthony Mann Jr for introducing and 1st Phorm International/Andy Frisella for creation and support throughout the program). 75 Hard reprogrammed the brain and built a mental toughness that was never known before. Two workouts a day, no junk food, no alcohol, daily self improvement reading, daily progress photos - no matter how busy - no excuses and no compromise- 75 days straight. An absolute game-changer that will positively impact literally every aspect of life. This discipline has carried through and allowed to continue in small daily wins and improvement.
Two years might sound like a long time, but it has flown by. Whatever your goals are, health, career, business, or otherwise - start small, start today, and let momentum compound your results over time.
