Christy McGinity Gibel, a prominent figure on Little Women: LA, has navigated a complex journey marked by weight loss efforts, significant health challenges, and turbulent personal relationships. Her story, as chronicled through various media outlets and the reality show itself, reveals a resilient woman facing adversity head-on.
Facing Criticism and Defending Her Past
Throughout her time on Little Women: LA, Christy, 41, has faced harsh criticism, particularly from co-star Terra Jole. The criticism ranged from her parenting to a past battle with alcoholism and even a period where she lost custody of her children. Christy took to Instagram to express her feelings, stating that Terra was “not allowed” to discuss her former substance abuse issues on camera. She even announced her departure from the show, declaring, “I’m done with Little Women LA I’m announcing it right now I’m moving. Goodbye forever!”
However, emotions were high that night, and she later deleted the post. Christy confirmed to AllAboutTheTEA.com that she was "NOT leaving" the reality series. She addressed Terra directly, saying, “As for Terra, until you have walked a mile in my shoes please don’t make assumptions and judge the way I parent. My child has had to endure enough in her life and I am the one she counts on. For her to see another adult criticizing me for my past is not productive to moving forward with a better life." Christy emphasized her nearly 10 years of sobriety, stating, “The fact is that I have been sober now for nearly 10 years. I’m proud of the progress I have made and that was a big slap in the face to not only myself but the thousands of viewers that are suffering the direct and non direct effects of addiction."
Christy has also found purpose in helping others achieve sobriety, becoming a recovery coach. She believes that by sharing her experiences, she can help remove the stigma associated with addiction and provide a resource for those who need it.
Christy believes Terra's attacks stem from jealousy, stating, “We have known each other for 18 years. We have never been besties, but now she clearly has it out for me. I can attribute that to the fact that she has seen me rise from my fall that she was so sure would ruin me."

Health Battles and Surgeries
Christy's health journey has been fraught with challenges. She underwent neck surgery to replace a disc, a procedure that carried significant risks. As the first little person to undergo this surgery, the risks were amplified. Unfortunately, complications arose when a surgeon nicked an artery, leading to a mini-stroke. This event significantly impacted her voice and facial muscles, as viewers could see in her confessionals on the show.
In the aftermath of the surgery, Christy faced a difficult recovery. She needed assistance with basic tasks like showering and eating. During this time, she felt shunned by the cast and relied heavily on her family for support, particularly her daughter Autumn.
Relationship with Todd Gibel and Weight Loss Concerns
Christy McGinity is also in the middle of a bitter divorce from her soon-to-be ex-husband, Todd Gibel. Christy clarified, “First of all, I did not file for a divorce I filed for an annulment."
The state of Christy's marriage to Todd Gibel has been a recurring theme on Little Women: LA. Their relationship faced strain, with reports of them sleeping in separate rooms. Christy expressed her concerns, stating, "He's saying I obviously don't want to be in a relationship with him anymore, but that's not the case… He hasn't slept in the same bedroom with me for over a year! He always gives me an excuse."
Todd's weight has also been a point of contention. He underwent gastric bypass surgery and celebrated weighing less on his 50th birthday than on his 20th. However, his weight continued to be a concern, especially during Christy's recovery from neck surgery. Autumn observed that Todd was not providing adequate support, spending his time playing video games and eating snacks while Christy needed help with everything. Christy gave Todd an ultimatum to lose weight within six months.

Despite the challenges, there were moments of connection between Christy and Todd. In one episode, they enjoyed a jet skiing date, which Christy described as "the perfect date" and a way to bring back the spark in their relationship.
Friendship Fallout and Shifting Alliances
Christy's relationships with her Little Women: LA co-stars have been tumultuous. Her feud with Terra Jole has been a central storyline, marked by accusations and personal attacks. She has also experienced a falling out with Briana Renee, with Briana declaring their friendship "dead forever."
The other women on the show also experienced their own share of drama. Elena Gant struggled with Terra's perceived abandonment due to her involvement in Dancing With the Stars. Elena felt that Terra was prioritizing her career over her friendships. Briana dealt with postpartum emotions and marital issues with Matt Ericson [Grundhoffer]. Jasmine Sorge coped with a difficult pregnancy and postpartum depression. Tonya Banks faced health challenges with Bell's Palsy.
