Spa Monarch Blackhawk: A Detailed Review of the Hotel, Casino, and Spa Experience

The Monarch Casino Resort Spa, affiliated with Atlantis in Reno, has undergone a recent remodel, transforming it into a premier destination in Blackhawk. This review delves into the various aspects of the resort, from the casino and dining options to the luxurious spa and hotel accommodations, providing a comprehensive overview for potential visitors.

Navigating the Casino

One of the initial challenges at the Monarch Casino is navigating its layout. Like many casinos in Blackhawk, its design is long and narrow, dictated by its location along the main road and Clear Creek. This can make traversing the casino floor somewhat difficult. Random seating is sparse, which can be a drawback for those who prefer to take frequent breaks.

Smart Elevators

The elevators at the Monarch are equipped with a smart system. Instead of traditional up/down buttons, there is a pad where you select your desired floor. The system then directs you to a specific elevator car (A-D). Once inside, there are no floor buttons; the floor number is displayed on the inside of the door. For access to room floors, scanning your room key is required. While initially confusing, the system becomes easier to use with familiarity.

Casino Atmosphere

The casino floor is vibrant, with a variety of video poker options, both good and bad. During football season, the bars are particularly lively.

Dining Experience

The buffet at Monarch was rated a 6 out of 10, noted for its selection of comfort food and appealing dessert options, though it doesn't quite measure up to Las Vegas standards. Despite its shortcomings, the buffet offers a reasonable dining option. The Sunday dinner line is separated by Top Players, hotel guests, and others. Many folks were eating crab legs, but I dont like to get that messy, so I pass.

The Spa Monarch Experience

The highlight of the Monarch is undoubtedly the Spa Monarch, located on the 23rd floor. A 3 pm CBD Massage was scheduled, costing $205. The spa spans over 30,000 square feet and offers a wide range of amenities designed for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation.

Pre-Treatment Amenities

Three hours were spent before the massage, sampling the huge co-ed Jacuzzi with waterfall and a nifty shower stall thing that you could create a water wind storm, ice storm, etc…. The spa features a large co-ed Jacuzzi with a waterfall and an experiential shower that simulates various weather conditions like ice storms and tropical rain, and a warm relaxation room and steam saunas. The women's area is well-appointed with coded lockers and essential amenities.

The CBD Massage

The massage was performed by a male therapist, a first time experience, that was adjusted to quickly. The therapist, who had recently moved from Las Vegas, maintained a conversation throughout the session. Tipping $30.
