I couldn’t process what I looked like and how big I had gotten. Over time, something amazing started to happen when I photographed and that was that I felt better.”

Photography provided Samantha with relief from the torment and depression she was experiencing. It gave her a space to express herself without limitations, challenging her own expectations of how she "should" look.

She described it as a weird experience, to not know the body you’ve been staying in for nearly three decades. She feels like she’s getting to know it for the first time and is finding out what is normal for her now everyday. There is still a great disconnect from my body and I, but we are slowly mending fences.
