Additional Information

The Importance of Blood Glucose and β-Ketone Monitoring

Blood glucose plus β-ketone monitoring plays an important role in diabetes control. A long-term study showed that maintaining blood glucose levels close to normal can reduce the risk of diabetes complications by up to 60%* . The results provided by this system can help you and your healthcare professional monitor and adjust your treatment plan to gain better control of your diabetes.

Comparing Meter and Laboratory Results

The meter provides you with whole blood equivalent results. The result you obtain from your meter may differ somewhat from your laboratory result due to normal variation. Meter results may be affected by factors and conditions that do not affect laboratory results in the same way.

New GK+ Meter Sensitivity

The new GK+ meter is more sensitive than the older model meters. This also makes them more accurate - in fact, the new GK+ meter tested within 10% accuracy for glucose 96% of the time in its test trials of 100s of tests for FDA regulation. The GK+ meter has eight sensor connectors for measuring the blood, whereas the earlier meter models only had four. This makes the meter ultra-sensitive to interstitial fluid. The earlier generation models were very accurate, within 10% accuracy 75% of the time, but not as accurate as the new GK+ model. Following all testing procedures is necessary with the new meter due to the sensitivity to interstitial fluid and microscopic contaminants on the hands.
