Tony Robbins, the world-renowned life and business coach, is known for his high energy levels and demanding schedule. To maintain his peak performance, he follows a specific nutrition plan developed by his personal trainer, Billy Beck III. This plan focuses on whole foods, alkalinity, and strategic supplementation. While Robbins has experimented with various diets throughout his life, including veganism and a fish-heavy approach, he has found a balanced approach that works for him. Creating a healthy eating plan is key to overall wellness and longevity.
The Core Principles of the Tony Robbins Diet
The Tony Robbins diet emphasizes several key principles:
Alkaline-Forming Foods
The diet focuses on consuming mostly alkali-forming foods like green vegetables, almonds, and lower-sugar fruits. An easy way to increase your intake of these foods is to take a "greens" supplement.
Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids
The diet emphasizes getting lots of omega-3’s and some omega-6’s
Whole Foods
The diet promotes eating real food.

Strategic Supplementation
Proper supplementation can further enhance your results and longevity. For immune system support, Beck adds to the green powder extra vitamin C, quercitin (found in citrus, red wine, and green/black tea), hesperidin (found in citrus), and rutin (found in citrus, berries, and asparagus). The greens powder is a mixture of fruits and vegetables and is rich with vitamins A and C, antioxidants and probiotics.
A Day in the Life: Tony Robbins' Dietary Regimen
Although the specific details of Tony Robbins' daily diet can vary, here's a general overview based on information from his trainer:
- Morning: The greens powder is a mixture of fruits and vegetables and is rich with vitamins A and C, antioxidants and probiotics. For more immune system support, Beck adds to the green powder extra vitamin C, quercitin (found in citrus, red wine, and green/black tea), hesperidin (found in citrus), and rutin (found in citrus, berries, and asparagus).
- Dinner: Robbins has a dinner of a "clean organic protein source".
The 10-Day Mental Diet Challenge
Tony Robbins also advocates for a "10 Day Mental Diet Challenge," outlined in his book Awaken The Giant Within. This challenge focuses on controlling your mental and emotional state by refusing to dwell on unresourceful thoughts or emotions for 10 consecutive days.
Rules of the Mental Diet
There are four simple yet important rules to this 10 Day Mental Diet Challenge:
- Rule 1: In the next 10 consecutive days, refuse to dwell on any unresourceful thoughts or feelings. Refuse to indulge in any disempowering questions or devitalizing vocabulary or metaphors.
- Rule 2: When you catch yourself beginning to focus on the negative - and you certainly will - you are to immediately snap yourself out of it and change your thinking or state. You can do this by asking an empowering question, such as “What's great about this?” or “What else could this mean?”. Or you can reframe any negative thoughts that come up, for example, if you catch yourself saying “I suck”, you would replace it with, “I'm awesome!”
- Rule 3: For the next 10 consecutive days, make certain that your whole focus in life is on solutions and not problems. The minute you see a possible challenge, immediately focus on what the solution could be.
- Rule 4: If you backslide - that is, if you catch yourself indulging in or dwelling on an unresourceful thought or feeling - don't beat yourself up. There's no problem with this as long as you change immediately. However, if you continue to dwell on unrsourceful thoughts or feelings for more than a minute, you must wait until the following morning to start the ten days over. The goal of this program is 10 consecutive days without holding or dwelling on a negative thought or state. This starting-over process must happen no matter how many days in a row you've already accomplished the task.

Challenges and Considerations
Following a diet like Tony Robbins' can be challenging. It may require significant changes to your current eating habits and lifestyle.
Commitment
It is important to note that this is not for the weak of heart. This is only for those who are fully committed to conditioning their nervous systems for new, empowering emotional patterns that can take their lives to the next level.
Social adjustments
A lot of this seems ridiculous, and your boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse will think you’ve been brainwashed.
Initial investment
One thing that I think really helped me stay with it was to go out before beginning and buy the vitamins, greens supplement, cleanse kit, soy milk and yogurt (you can get soy yogurt at a natural foods store), and ingredients for the first few meals. I probably spent 60 dollars for the stuff, not counting groceries, and it will last me much longer than the ten days. I know people don’t like to spend money on something until they’ve tried it, but I really think that spending that money committed me to doing it. If I had bought all this stuff and then not followed through on the challenge, I would have felt and looked like an idiot.
Overcoming slip-ups
If you make too big of a commitment all at once, you are more likely to backslide.

External criticism
I have gotten numerous snarky remarks from people (amazingly some waiters) about how I’m ‘choosing’ which animals have value or feelings and which ones are okay to eat and not. All I can tell you is to not let things like that bother you. We all have to do what we can.
Tips for Success
Here are some tips to help you succeed if you decide to follow a similar diet:
- Plan ahead: If you don’t cook at all, you might have some trouble with this type of diet, so you’d better learn.
- Start small: If you make too big of a commitment all at once, you are more likely to backslide.
- Stay accountable: The best way to stay accountable to this is to commit to a friend or family member that you're going to do this 10 Day Mental Diet Challenge. Post a comment below to make your commitment public.
