"One of the things is, I don't use sugar anymore. Splenda is the way to go for me. I typically don't use regular eggs; I use Egg Beaters, or whatever the store brand is. I don't use regular milk; I use almond milk."

"Mexican is my absolute favorite food, and I wasn't giving up my Mexican food. I used reduced-calorie, or a lot of lower-calorie, products. I use reduced fat cheeses and low-carb tortillas, and I found that I like fat free sour cream. So I can have my Mexican food. It's all about portions and still getting all the flavors that I want."

Plant-Based Diet

Another person (not Tamara Day), who had cancer diagnoses in 2016 and 2018, discovered the Starch Solution by Dr. McDougall and decided to do an intervention on her kitchen! She cleared out her refrigerator and cabinets of everything non-compliant. She gave away food and threw a lot out. By the time her husband came home from work, there was not much left in the house. They had a lot of processed junk. She explained to him the basics of the Starch Solution and told him what diseases it was known to reverse and he said he would do it too! They eat a lot of potatoes of all kinds, lots of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes. They limit bread, pasta, nuts and seeds, avocados, and tofu since they are in weight loss mode. They cut out all animal products - meat, dairy, eggs, and no processed foods - including all oil. She is no longer type 2 diabetic, no longer have sleep apnea, her liver enzymes improved, her blood pressure is normal, her neuropathy has improved, and she’s in a lot less pain. She was off insulin the first week of changing to eating plant-based.

One of the things I found most transformative was learning to fall in love with my body. It might sound cliché, but loving your body as it is right now will inspire you to take better care of it. Patience is key. Weight loss is a journey, not a race. Celebrate every small victory and progress, because some progress, no matter how small, is still progress. Don’t hesitate to seek support. And most importantly, never give up. You are capable of incredible things when you put your mind to it. Remember, it’s about transforming your habits and lifestyle for sustainable weight loss.
