A Note on Personal Endeavors and Support

Hi everyone, my name is Shay and I am creating this fundraiser to help pay for medical bills, groceries and rent during the period I will be receiving care after my "gender affirming top surgery" and will be unable to work. I have always been a "tomboy" but never realized I could do things for myself like this that would help me accept my body in ways that losing weight or wearing clothes could ever do. My journey with "gender affirming top surgery" started in 2020. I was desperate to get this done; I submitted all paperwork as fast as I could once I finally had insurance, only to discover I had to wait 3 more years. When you struggle to make it through one day of looking at yourself, three years felt deadly. For years, I have placated my feelings of sorrow and helplessness with the hope that this surgery would come along sooner rather than later, even if it puts me in debt, or financial strife, this is something I have to do. I found a job that could give me insurance and a steady paycheck and have worked hard for the company and love my bosses. (My job primarily revolves around physical labor and the heavy use of my arms to lift gear and drive. After months of strict budgeting and hours upon hours of overtime, I find myself in the predicament that I can cover a good amount of things with the savings I've accrued but without assistance I will eventually be struggling to pay bills. I am reaching out to friends and family, humbly asking that if anyone has the ability to donate to help me, I will be so eternally grateful and appreciative. Thank you for taking the time to read this everyone, and thank you!- Shay.

Father's Day and Honoring Memories

This Sunday is my first Father’s Day without my dad physically here. One of the things my dad was worried about before he passed was that in his passing I would stop doing all the things I’d always done in life that made him proud. That in grief, I’d stop living. With all the weight my dad has lifted for me in life, I didn’t want my dad to carry that worry. I had to find the words. I told him I would keep going. I would always keep doing all the things that made him proud. He was so excited about this book. When I get emotional about that..it’s because he is here (in my heart). I am honoring his memory in seeing this through. Putting this book into the world is taking me to places I’ve never been. I have never been to New York. I am meeting new people every day! I am having some of the best conversations! I’m leaning into the richness of community! These are all things pulling me away from my father’s biggest worry -that in grief I would stop living- when death pulled us apart. I can’t call him on the phone or walk up and give him a hug, so when somebody asks “what are you getting your dad for Father’s Day?” For me..it’s this. It’s living out my dream. It’s what he would want me to do.
