Humans are incredibly creative and resourceful when it comes to finding skin care products. And that resourcefulness is exactly what came in handy when Revlon’s Oil Absorbing Volcanic Roller came into the picture. The Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Face Roller has taken the beauty world by storm, promising a quick and easy solution to oily skin. This article delves into a comprehensive review of the product, examining its features, effectiveness, and potential drawbacks, drawing upon expert opinions and user experiences.
What is the Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Face Roller?
The Revlon Oil-Absorbing Face Roller is a reusable skincare tool designed to absorb excess oil from the face, providing a mattifying effect. It's pretty much just a rollerball made of volcanic stone. There's no powder stowed away inside; all its oil-absorbing properties come from the tiny ball alone. The roller features a spherical ball made of volcanic rock that swivels inside the handle, allowing for easy application.
The Science Behind Volcanic Stone
The key to the roller's oil-absorbing capabilities lies in the volcanic stone itself. "Volcanic stones have little pockets of porous holes to trap oils," cosmetic chemist Ginger King confirms. New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman compares volcanic rock to clay - think Caudalie’s cult-favorite Instant Detox Mask or the ever-popular Aztec Secret facial. It works the same way, attracting oil like a magnet to remove it, she says. This porous structure allows the stone to effectively draw out excess oil from the skin's surface. This product is made of volcanic stone - yup, that burning hot lava that comes out from volcanoes is taken once it’s cooled and hardened, and then it’s shaped into a little tool that can help with your oily skin.
First Impressions and User Experience
Many users have expressed surprise and satisfaction with the roller's performance. Loads of people I know own one and basically can't shut up about it! The volcanic rock feels surprisingly smooth gliding across my face. I can't count, off the top of my head, how many looks of pleasant surprise I've witnessed as this rollerball has transformed skin from shiny to matte in a matter of seconds with the flick of a wrist. Rolling is like a mini-massage - not quite gua-sha level, but just enough. The rock sucks off oil very quickly. It takes just one pass to get rid of most of the excess on my cheeks, chin, and the center of my nose. My forehead hoards grease, so it does take a few passes there. Those swipes leave my face magically matte-ish - like a muted dewiness. That balance is the best part. Post-roll, the oily parts of my face aren’t greasy, but they aren’t completely dry, either. As bizarre as this sounds, my skin is left looking like skin rather than that mannequin-like matte you see in Instagram filters.
One user shared, "This roller was given to me as a gift by my husband and truth be told I was offended at first - how dare he notice that my skin is always oily after I get home from work?! I'm a teacher, so I don't usually have much time to touch-up my makeup throughout the day, but this little gem has been a real saviour as it takes minimal effort and is so quick to use." Another user raved, "I had LOADS of weddings to attend last summer and this little mattifying roller ensured my makeup looked pristine throughout the whole day and night."

Effectiveness and Longevity
The roller's effectiveness in absorbing oil is widely acknowledged. Does that mean the product actually works, though? Much to my surprise, yes. It does the oil absorbing by swiveling around inside the handle while I lightly roll it over my cheeks, nose, and forehead. For those with oily skin, the roller can be a game-changer. Since it is also a rolling product, it is also a good way to work in a little facial massage to get that blood pumping throughout your face.
However, the duration of the mattifying effect varies depending on individual skin type and oil production. Like any oil-absorbing product, how long that mattifying effect lasts depends on your specific skin type and how much oil it produces. I'm not very oily, so I can go a few hours before needing the rollerball after using it once - it's a throw-in-my-bag-just-in-case product for nights out and special occasions.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Maintaining the cleanliness of the roller is crucial to prevent the buildup of bacteria and ensure its continued effectiveness. Despite its convenient portability and seemingly magic ability to keep base makeup intact, there is one important downside to consider with the Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Face Roller. As King points out, "even if you can wash it, if it traps oils, it will be harder to clean," she explains.
You can wash the Face Roller by unscrewing the very top of it, removing the ball, giving it some soap and warm water, then leaving it out to dry.
Potential Drawbacks
Despite its many advantages, the Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Face Roller does have some potential drawbacks. The roller isn’t a cure-all. My face will always be on the oily side, despite having my skin-care routine down pat. Some users with drier skin may find the roller too mattifying. "I usually avoid anything particularly mattifying as my skin is on the drier side, so it tends to look a bit dehydrated when I use products made for oily skin types! Obviously, after hearing such glowing reviews I had to try it out for myself. I love how quick and easy it is to use! Upon reading some reviews of the product, I learned that it’s best to use this roller only as needed as using it too often can remove some of the skin’s natural moisture.

Revlon Skin Reviving Roller VoxBox
When I learned that I would be receiving Influenster’s Revlon Skin Reviving Roller VoxBox, I was excited to check it out. The information I received from Influenster indicated that I would be one of the first people to try it. It was exciting to have exclusive access to a beauty product before it became publicly available. The roller I received came with three interchangeable balls each with its own individual functions. The first ball is made of volcanic stone and is reusable. Its purpose is to absorb excess oil on the skin and to replace the need for products like blotting papers. Initially, I was skeptical as to its efficacy but when I tried it, it actually worked.
The next ball my roller came with is rose quartz. Revlon claims that the purpose of this ball is to depuff, cool, and revive skin. While it certainly cools, I’m not certain that it does much in the way of depuffing and reviving and it’s hard to know if it lives up to those claims because there aren’t any standards for proving them. Although a quick internet search will yield various articles boasting the benefits of rose quartz rolling, I haven’t come across any that actually prove the benefits. I did enjoy the cool feel of the roller but I’m not convinced that adding rose quartz rolling to my skincare routine will have any substantial long-term benefits.
The third ball my roller kit included was a stainless steel ball. According to Revlon, the purpose of this ball is to cool and depuff. While it certainly felt nice rolling it on my face, I couldn’t find any hard evidence to support the claim that it depuffs. If I could only purchase one roller kit, I would choose the volcanic stone one because it truly works and can be washed and reused. It is small enough to fit into my purse and have on hand if needed. I also like that it comes with a case for storage so the stone won’t be easily lost.
