Pamela Anderson's Diet and Workout: Staying Fit and Confident

Pamela Anderson, the iconic actress and model, has captured attention for decades, not only for her roles but also for her stunning physique and unwavering confidence. From her early days as a Baywatch star to her recent Broadway debut in Chicago, Anderson has consistently showcased a dedication to health, fitness, and overall well-being. This article explores Pamela Anderson's diet and workout routines, offering insights into how she maintains her figure and embraces a healthy lifestyle.

Evolving Confidence and Self-Acceptance

At 57 years old, Pamela Anderson has openly discussed her journey toward self-acceptance and body confidence. The 5ft 7in actress, who was a size zero in the 1990s, admitted that she had been trying to live up to external expectations for a long time. However, she revealed to Glamour that she now feels more comfortable and confident in her own skin than ever before.

"I feel like [now] it's the first time in my life where I feel like if I'm wearing a bathing suit… I feel fine about myself. It's so freeing," she shared. Anderson emphasized the importance of self-acceptance as one ages, rather than chasing an unrealistic ideal of youthfulness. She has embraced a more natural look, even going makeup-free for appearances like Paris Fashion Week. "You're going to hit a crossroads in your fifties, and you go, 'Am I going to chase youth? Am I going to be miserable? Or am I going to be self-accepting?'"

Workout Routine

Anderson did not diet to look good for the Baywatch show but she did work out. Pamela likes to get outside and garden, and also has a ballet barre in her home.

Gardening

Pamela stays strong is by getting busy in her garden. In her Netflix documentary, Pamela takes viewers with her as she prunes her plants, cuts flowers, and mows the lawn.

Broadway Training

The documentary also highlights the training she went through when she starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. FYI, it required some serious exercise.“To start off, it’s three hours of dance with Greg Butler, two hours of acting with Ivana Chubbuck, and then one hour of voice with Eric Vetro. I did two weeks in L.A. and yesterday was my first day in New York. Tomorrow we start. It’s a lot! I love really hard work,” Pamela told Vogue.

Home Equipment

Pamela also got real that even though she does work out, sometimes she just doesn't get to it. "I have a ballet barre, I have my Technogym, my treadmill. I have all these different pieces and I just look at it and I haven’t used it yet," she told The Wall Street Journal.

Vegan Diet and Eating Habits

As for her diet, Pamela shared with Vogue that she maintains a vegan diet and a disciplined eating schedule. "I’ve got a great doctor in L.A. who has given me this great vitamin regimen. I’m taking them and eating healthy as I’m vegan. It just makes me feel so great and energized," she shared.

And Pamela told Hollywood Life that her diet is (shocker!) filled with tons of fruits and veggies. “Eating vegan is great for blood flow. It’s an aphrodisiac diet, which suits me perfectly. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, raw, grilled, steamed. I like to make Buddha bowls [and] smoothies. It’s the California in me. I like to make many different salads and create yummy dressings,” she shared.

Intermittent Fasting

Speaking to Vogue, the actress whose documentary Pamela, a Love Story, recently dropped, revealed she follows an intermittent fasting diet. It just makes me feel so great and energized," she said. She also shared she follows a strict supplement routine: "I've got a great doctor in L.A. who has given me this great vitamin regimen. I'm taking them and eating healthy as I'm vegan."

Vegan Snacks

My assistant cuts up lots of veggies. I'm a grazer. I also don't eat after 6pm or before 10am - no sugar ever. I also received lovely welcome packages from plant-based food companies Field Roast and Lightlife. I've particularly enjoyed Lightlife's tempeh, a traditional Indonesian superfood made from fermented soybeans.

Lily James' Transformation for "Pam & Tommy"

Lily James faced the challenge of transforming into Pamela Anderson for the Hulu series "Pam & Tommy." To achieve this, she worked with personal trainer Matt Bevan, who designed a program to help her embody Anderson's physique and confidence.

Training Regimen

With a four-month period to achieve the goal, Bevan created a program for James which consisted of four to five sessions a week. They trained virtually (because lockdown) so didn’t have the luxury of big gym spaces and machines; instead, it was back to basics, which is proof you don’t need an expensive gym membership to nail your fitness goals. “We had to get creative and made use of light dumbbells, resistance bands, sliding discs and towels-yes, the ones you use to dry yourself!” he says. “Then we adjusted variables, such as the tempo of each exercise, stability and range of motion.”

They started slowly so that James felt comfortable and confident with key exercises that she’d be performing more as time went on-this, says Bevan, was key to ensuring she was using the correct muscles and technique, and staying injury free. “After that, we moved into full body strength, circuit-based workouts, increasing her strength and aerobic conditioning,” he says. James would do 12-15 reps of bigger movements (such as dumbbell or banded deadlifts, kettlebell goblet squats, press-ups and rows) back-to-back using weights as heavy as she could go.

The aim was to maintain and build James’s lean muscle mass while dropping some weight. To do that as quickly and effectively as possible, Bevan instructed her to alternate between upper (i.e. press-ups) and lower (squats) body exercises to get blood racing around the body. “It’s tough-your cardiovascular system is being worked and you’re also stimulating the muscles,” he says. But it pays dividends. A big fan of split squats, Bevan incorporated lots-and variations-of them into James’s program, and they regularly finished a session by doing a sprinkle of aerobic conditioning on a versa climber or mini trampoline, to help keep things fun.

Dietary Changes

As well as training hard and giving it her all, James also had to make big changes to her diet, cutting out refined sugar and limiting alcohol to weekends. “I worked out her calorific needs and then sent her a couple of weeks of sample menus with some recipes in, and Lily took ownership. We stuck to three meals a day and a couple of snacks. I don’t like anyone to be limiting what they love, so she was allowed to have a treat or two weekly.” Keeping hydrated was also super important-and is something Bevan recommends all his clients do. To that end, James started carrying a “huge, reusable water bottle” with her wherever she went, to ensure she drank three to four liters a day.

James' Perspective

James told Shape of working out, “I have found that starting my day with exercise is the key. When I work out regularly, I immediately feel the benefits. It’s exciting to be empowered by that, and it turns into a domino effect. Naturally, I start eating better and stop drinking so much wine. Then I feel more energised in the morning to work out again.”

She’s been saying this for years, too. “I also just started cycling again,” James told Shape. I cycled everywhere when I moved to London, until my bike got stolen. Then I started taking Ubers. Recently, I got my bike back, and that’s been such a gift. It’s my bit of freedom to ride without having any direction stuck in my mind.

“In lockdown, I had to make exercising fun; otherwise I would lose interest,” James told Shape. I switched up my normal yoga and Pilates for daily dance classes. Early on, I learned this fun dance routine and couldn’t stop doing it.

“Finding that fun is the main thing for me now. I know I have to stay fit, and I know working out is good for me.

Beauty and Self-Care

Pamela Anderson emphasizes the importance of inner beauty and self-care. She believes that happiness is the best beauty trick and that being brave is sexy.

Beauty Philosophies

I believe all beauty comes from within. Happiness is the best beauty trick. Being brave is sexy. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Fighting for freedom starts with one's own freedom. It is a condition when fighting for others freedom. It is a political statement to be happy, to be alive.

Self-Care Tips

While we push our limits out of our comfort zone, self care is important. I'm lucky. I go to Klara Beauty Lab anytime I'm in New York. She's the best. She takes great care of me.

Fitness Routine

I get regular massage, body work. I love pilates. I'm working out pretty hard on Broadway right now.
