The Nicholson Clinic is a leading weight loss center, offering a range of surgical and non-surgical solutions to help patients achieve significant and lasting weight loss. With a team comprising top weight loss surgeons and a robust bariatric support staff, the clinic has served over 25,000 patients from all 50 states and 11 countries.
A Range of Effective Weight Loss Solutions
The Nicholson Clinic provides a variety of effective solutions for long-term weight loss, tailored to individual needs. The most common procedure offered is the gastric sleeve, but the clinic also performs gastric bypass, duodenal switch, gastric balloon, lap-band removal, and revisional surgeries.
Surgical Options
- Gastric Sleeve: This procedure involves removing a large portion of the stomach, restricting food intake and reducing hunger.
- Gastric Bypass: This surgery creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes the small intestine, limiting calorie absorption.
- Duodenal Switch: A more complex procedure that combines stomach reduction with intestinal rerouting for significant weight loss.
- LAP-BAND Removal and Revisional Surgeries: The clinic also offers solutions for patients who have had previous weight loss surgeries that need to be revised or removed.
Non-Surgical Options
- Gastric Balloon: The Nicholson Clinic was one of the first practices in the DFW area to offer the ReShape® Integrated Dual Balloon, an FDA-approved, non-surgical weight loss procedure for people with mild to moderate obesity (Body Mass Index of 30-40) and a related health condition. The ReShape Dual Balloon is inserted into the stomach on an outpatient basis. "ReShape has proven itself tremendously beneficial for those looking for a reversible alternative to weight loss surgery that costs less and doesn’t involve a dramatic recovery time,” says Dr. Long.
- Weight Loss Medication Prescriptions: Beyond surgery, the Nicholson Clinic offers weight loss medication prescriptions and support. They prescribe a range of prescription medications designed to address appetite suppression and help create feelings of fullness faster, supporting you in your weight loss journey.

Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You?
Doctors look at Body Mass Index (BMI) and other obesity-related diseases (comorbidities) as an important criteria to determine whether weight loss surgery is a suitable option or not. Generally speaking, bariatric surgery is considered appropriate for people with a BMI greater than 40 or with a BMI greater than 35 and one or more obesity-related comorbidity. Weight loss surgery can kick-start your path to a healthier, longer, and more fulfilling life. Patients can in many cases experience the benefits immediately after surgery.

Weight Loss Surgery vs. Medications
According to recent FDA updates as of October 3, 2024, compounded weight loss drugs, specifically those containing tirzepatide (like Mounjaro and Zepbound), will no longer permitted to be dispensed as the shortage of these medications has officially ended, meaning pharmacies must stop preparing compounded versions of these drugs. While certain weight loss medications and diet programs can be effective for some, they tend to be more viable options for patients with a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) and without underlying health conditions. In addition, studies show weight loss programs, pills and injections often result in only temporary weight loss and once the medication is stopped or the program is complete, people tend to regain the weight. And this can be quite costly to sustain. For many, the only way to truly lose weight and keep it off is to recalibrate your system with minimally invasive weight loss surgery.
