Mackenzie Edwards, known for her appearances on Teen Mom OG, has been open about her journey to lose weight after welcoming her third child, Stella Rhea, in January 2020. This article explores Mackenzie's weight loss efforts, her interactions with fans and critics, and her transition away from reality television towards a greater focus on fitness and family life.
Post-Pregnancy Weight Loss Journey
After giving birth to Stella Rhea, her third child with husband Ryan Edwards, Mackenzie embarked on a fitness journey. In March, during a Q&A session on Instagram Story, she acknowledged that it was “such a struggle after baby [No.] 3!” to lose weight. Despite the challenges, Mackenzie has been dedicated to sharing her progress with her followers.
In August 2020, Mackenzie, 24, proudly displayed her weight loss results, crediting dietary supplements. In June, she flaunted her results in a bikini. She has also mentioned being gluten and dairy-free. When a fan inquired about her daily diet via Instagram on August 22, she responded, “[I’m] gluten/dairy free.”
Dealing with Criticism
Mackenzie's weight loss journey hasn't been without its critics. A troll accused her of “using drugs” to achieve her weight loss and claimed the products she was selling on Instagram for a “flat tummy” were “fake.” Mackenzie responded to the accusations, stating, “I’m not ‘on’ anything. I eat right and work out. It’s not rocket science, and there’s no quick fix.”
Mackenzie also addressed the importance of finding one's motivation. She wrote, “What is your ‘why’? Why do you get up in the morning? Why do you keep going when you want to quit? Why do you want to be a better you? Or why do you not? Why do you stand up for what you believe in? We all have to answer these questions. It’s up to us to decide why we want to do things. My ‘why’ is my family and my children. Be better. Be stronger. Be you. Putting in the work!” She also reposted a quote from author Stephen P.

Leaving Teen Mom OG
In April, Mackenzie addressed what she called “the elephant in the room” - her departure from Teen Mom OG. She confirmed that she and Ryan would not be returning to the MTV series. Mackenzie told Without a Crystal Ball in March 2021 that the decision came after Maci Bookout "didn't fulfill her obligations or, like, basically didn't have enough content". She added that Ryan said, “Don’t. We’re gonna move on. We’re gonna live our lives. We’re gonna do our jobs and, you know, have a normal life."
Mackenzie expressed relief about leaving the show, stating, “It’s almost, like, a weight lifted off of my shoulders. I deserve to feel good about myself.” Ryan shared his wife's sentiment and wasn’t interested in moving forward with the series.
Family and Faith
Mackenzie is a mother to three children: Hudson, from a previous marriage, and Jagger and Stella Rhea with her husband, Ryan Edwards. The couple welcomed Stella Rhea in January 2020 and are also parents to son Jagger, who is 23 months old.
Mackenzie said both she and Ryan had turned toward religion. “Before this happened, I was just praying to God, saying ‘Whatever you have in store for us let us follow that,’ because I’m a believer,” she said. “We both believe that if we follow our hearts and follow God’s plan he’s going to open up doors for us that have never been opened before,” Mackenzie continued.
Focusing on the Future
Since leaving Teen Mom OG, Mackenzie has been focusing on her fitness journey and her family. She announced, “I have been putting together a fitness plan since I started my fitness journey close to a year ago.”
