Keto Meal Delivery Services in Los Angeles: Reviews and Options

Navigating the world of healthy eating can be challenging, especially with specific dietary needs. For those embracing the ketogenic lifestyle, maintaining a low-carb, high-fat diet requires careful planning and preparation. Fortunately, Los Angeles offers a variety of keto meal delivery services to simplify the process. This article explores some of the top options, providing reviews and insights to help you choose the best fit for your needs.

The Keto Diet: A Primer

The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet which shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. Instead of relying on sugar (glucose) that comes from carbohydrates in foods such as grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits, the keto diet relies on ketone bodies, a type of fuel that the liver produces from stored fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ‘ketosis’. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy.

Because the keto diet has such a high-fat requirement, followers must eat fat at each meal. To have a proper keto diet plan, expect to have a daily intake of a 2,000-calorie diet, which can consist of 165 grams of fat, 0 to 40 grams of carbs, and 75 grams of protein.

Why Choose Keto Meal Delivery?

Anyone trying out the keto diet knows that the hardest part is getting the macros right. Even if you cook all your meals yourself, it can be unclear as to how many grams of sugar are in your specific tomato, or doing the math to calculate the weight to figure out the carbs. And then you’re constantly googling and doubting yourself, “shit, is carrot a carb?” The general rule is to stay within under 50g of carbs a day, and for your diet to be composed of 60-80% of healthy fats.

So if you’re busy and lazy like me, there’s no way you can do all the math, workout, drink enough water, work 8 hours a day, have a bf/gf, spend time with friends, read Mein Kamph, catch up on Orange is the New Black, cook, and be in ketosis all at the same time. Thankfully, I discovered the existence of meal delivery companies specifically for keto.

FACTOR_ (formerly Factor 75)

FACTOR_ (formerly Factor 75) is an improved version of the popular meal delivery company Freshly. Instead of just ordering one kind of meal, you can mix and match from Protein Plus, Calorie Smart (less than 550 calories), Vegan/Veggie, Chef’s Choice, and Keto. You can choose from 6 to 18 meals a week, and the more you buy, the less it is - with the average cost being about $12.50 for ten meals a week. There are also Breakfast Bundles and Shakes and Snacks to add on if you’d like to supplement your meals. Currently, they give you two add-ons, like Wellness Shots or Shake Samples, for FREE in every box. All the meals are delicious, and while you can aim to order lower-calorie dishes, I felt these were best for DINNER because the plates feel pretty hefty. It’s kind of hard to bounce back to your desk after you’ve just enjoyed a Sirloin Filet with Creamed Spinach, for example. The Cilantro-Lime Barramundi with Poblano Cauli Mash was one of my favorites, and it has less than 600 calories, but it’s also something called Gourmet Plus, which costs a bit more. Moving forward I just made sure to find meals with some of that cauliflower mash.

Pros: Your first box can be 50% off, plus free shipping.Cons: You have to pay for shipping, which is $10.99, and I didn’t enjoy the upsells for Gourmet Plus, although they were all delicious.

CookUnity

The meals are crafted by a collective of chefs and made with sustainably sourced seasonal ingredients, which you can customize to your dietary needs. It even includes sub-categories like Dairy-Free, along with the usual Paleo and Vegan. The ordering process begins with a questionnaire where you choose your preferred 3 Protein Sources, which range from Chicken to Vegan. From there, you Pick your Meals, which can be narrowed down with a Calorie Count (under 600) or by Low carb or Protein Choice.

The first Cook Unity dish I tried was the Grilled Asian Hanger Steak with Charred Broccolini by Chef Stacy Bareng, which was absolutely DELICIOUS! The rice was so rich and buttery that I finally had to check the calorie count again and had failed to notice it clocked in at 840 eek. I promptly split it with my husband. Not exactly ranking high on the healthy meal delivery services in Los Angeles scale if you eat it solo. The price for a single meal begins at $13.59 for the smallest 4 meals per week box and is as low as $11.09 a meal if you order 16 meals a week. The average price for a box of 8 meals is $11.69.

Pros: You select your meals before you pay, so you know from the start you’re buying something you want. I also love seeing the chefs next to the dishes they create; it makes the dishes feel much more personal, and it’s fun when you recognize one.Cons: I don’t love the upsell for Chef Specials, which might also be due to the quality of the meat. The additional price ranges from $2.99 to $9.99.

Diet-to-go powered by Freshology

Choose between five menu plans like Balance and KetoCarb30, and decide if you want two or three meals a day and how many calories you want (different for women and men). They also have a popular plan if you’re Pre-Diabetic. The Balance plan includes items like Turkey Picadillo, Crusted Tilapia, and Veggie Rice Bowls. The newer Mediterranean menu feels less calorie-restricted than the others and includes dishes like Porcini Mushroom Chicken, Moroccan Lentil Salad, and Salmon Cake over Rice Pilaf.

Pros: The cost is pretty good, at about $13 a meal if you order two meals a day, and currently, you can get 20% off your first week.Cons: Delivery is limited and costs $19.98!

Eat Clean

Eat Clean is a healthy meal delivery service that’s also organic, which I could hardly believe when I saw the lower price point. The meals heat up in 3 minutes or less in the microwave and are sent fresh, not frozen. EST on Saturdays, offers over 300 meals. The price for a single meal begins at $12.58 per meal for a box of 6 and goes as low as $8.60 per meal when you order the maximum of 20 meals per delivery, which isn’t hard to go through if you’ve got multiple eaters in the house. No matter what plan you choose, the calorie counts range from the low 300s to under 600, and the choices are delicious! Personal favorites include the Chimichurri Palomilla Steak with Baked Sweet Plantain, the Paleo Mojo Sliced Chicken with Yucca Mash from the Paleo menu, and the BBQ Pulled Pork with Sweet Plantain Mash from the Traditional menu. All are under 517 calories, with most being in the 400-calorie range.

Pros: The price for an organic meal is much lower than the competitors on this list, even without a discount code, and the choices are varied. I also like that you can choose between a regular or large portion - because sometimes you just want more food (but the regular portion is also plenty).Cons: The heating instructions are general, and I felt some meals needed further explanation, such as the Bun-Less Hawaiian Turkey Burger, which had a plastic Paleo Sriracha Sauce inside along with Pineapple and Tomatoes, which I felt probably had to come out versus be left inside to vent/melt.

Bistro MD

Bistro MD was created by dieticians, and it’s a great program to work with if you’d like assistance along the way. There are eight different plans to choose from, like Women’s, Men’s, Heart Healthy, and Vegan, to name a few. I was concerned at first that I wouldn’t be able to share it with my spouse, but their Signature plan features meals that hover around 350 calories a piece and are high in protein and balanced carbohydrates, so it works for anyone. Personal favorites have been Mojo Pork with Black Beans and Rice, Blackened Chicken and Creamy Smoked Paprika Sauce, and Pork Tenderloin with Country Style Gravy and Mashed Potatoes. You can get a whole day of meals delivered or choose just lunch and dinner entrees for either 5 or 7 days. As I mentioned before, you’ll also get personalized recommendations for the other meals, so breakfast is often the easiest to replace to keep costs lower.

Cons: While the food tastes good, it also tastes healthier than some of the competitors listed on this page.

Splendid Spoon

Splendid Spoon is a plant-based meal delivery service that is also gluten-and dairy-free, with nary an added sugar. The meals come frozen and can be enjoyed over a week when defrosted in the refrigerator. Lunch and Dinner options include a wide array of Curries or Soups, Rice-Based Meals like Chana Potato and Roasted Tomato Risotto, and Noodles. Ordering is a breeze because you choose between 7, 14, or 21 Dishes, and that includes a balance of Soups, Noodles, and Smoothies if you want to stick with their suggestions. But you can choose whatever you’d like and even scrap a whole category if that’s your preference. Shipping is FREE when you choose the 14 Dish option or higher, and meals come to $8.67 each with a start-up promotion that runs for three weeks.

Cons: If you aren’t used to a plant-based diet, there might be a few things to get used to in the digestion department.

Meal Prep Sunday

Meal Prep Sunday is a new addition to this list for 2025 and is a company exclusive to Southern California, based in San Diego. They prepare all meals in-house using locally sourced, organic ingredients and minimize third-party suppliers. For that reason, the company can offer FREE WEEKLY DELIVERY, which is a huge positive in my book because there is no upcharge on meal price. The meals come frozen, and you can eat for a week. The variety of healthy, organic offerings includes Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner dishes, all of which are approximately 500 calories each. There’s also a line of Freshly Pressed Juices, which works perfectly with my diet because I practice intermittent fasting and generally don’t eat breakfast. So, I “break my fast” with a juice like a Jicama, Apple, Carrot, Lime, Ginger, Turmeric blend. The juices start at $5.99 each. The menu is updated weekly and includes Breakfast dishes like a Huevos Rancheros Casserole, lunches like Orange Shrimp over Jasmine Rice with Broccolini, and dinners like Short Rib Ragu Casserole loaded with veggies. The meals are all delicious and huge! You can even split them if you’d like to keep your calories down. Pair with a side of fruit or raw vegetables and you’ve got a balanced, low-calorie meal. Or keep it as is and feel satiated for hours. It has been crafted by a professional team after all. You can order from 5 to 15 meals a week, and the more you order, the lower the price. Plus, if you choose the 15-pack, you get 5 Juice Shots for FREE! You also get access to a FREE Fitness App with 10 meals or more. The price of your first week is anywhere from 45 to 74% off, bringing the meal price down to $3.26 a meal in some cases!

Pros: FREE Shipping and Organic Ingredients are hard to beat! Plus, the meals taste great and the cost is fair for such large portions. You can cancel at any time. Also, who doesn’t love a meal for $3.26!Cons: The Juice Package is separate; I wish it were integrated with the meals. They said that would be coming soon :).
