Keto Matcha Latte Recipe: A Delicious and Healthy Energy Boost

Are you looking for a creamy, delicious, and healthy way to start your morning or perk up your afternoon? Look no further than the Keto Matcha Latte! This vibrant green drink combines the amazing health benefits of matcha with keto-friendly ingredients for a guilt-free indulgence.

What is Matcha and Why Should You Drink It?

Matcha is made from finely ground green tea leaves. It's not just any green tea; the tea plants are shade-grown for several weeks before harvest, which increases the chlorophyll content and gives matcha its vibrant green color and rich antioxidant profile.

Matcha boasts a wealth of health benefits, making it a fantastic addition to any healthy lifestyle. It is rich in antioxidants and has a high concentration of catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body. Studies have linked green tea to a variety of health benefits, like helping to prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and even encouraging weight loss. These are all great reasons to enjoy matcha even more.

Key Ingredients for a Keto Matcha Latte

The beauty of a Keto Matcha Latte lies in its simplicity. With just a few ingredients, you can whip up a delightful and nutritious beverage. Here's a breakdown of the essential components:

  • Matcha Green Tea Powder: The star of the show! Make sure to use high quality matcha powder. This will make a big difference in the taste. Good quality matcha powder should be bright in color and green. When it comes to the smell, it should be a bit vegetal, with some pine, chocolate, nutty and creamy aromas. My favorite brands are Vital Proteins and Jade Leaf. You can find the Ito En Culinary Matcha powder at your local Costco store. I bought it as a set on Amazon. I went for the listing with the most positive reviews.
  • Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk: A low-carb, nutritious base. Unsweetened almond milk is nutritious, low in calories and won’t raise your blood sugar. There’s only about 1.5-2 grams of carbs per 1 cup, depending on the company.
  • Coconut Milk: Coconut milk provides creaminess without dairy, and the MCT oil gives you an instant energy boost, perfect for a quick breakfast or snack. With 94% of calories from healthy fats, it’s a great addition to a keto lifestyle, especially for keeping you full and energized. Make sure to use a liquid coconut milk like Aroy-D for a smooth consistency.
  • MCT Oil (or Brain Octane Oil or Virgin Coconut Oil): This adds healthy fats for an energy boost. One important component of a great mood is having an abundance of energy! How much MCT oil should I use in a keto matcha latte?
  • Sweetener of Choice (Optional): Monk Fruit Syrup for Keto or Honey or Maple Syrup for Paleo. Omit sweeteners altogether to make this Whole30 compliant. For additional sweetness add these: Monk Fruit-Keto, Honey or Maple Syrup-Paleo. As one of the most keto friendly sweetener alternatives, you can use as much or as little as you want in your Keto Matcha Latte.
  • Vanilla Extract: Enhances the flavor profile.
  • Coconut Whipped Cream (Optional): For an extra touch of indulgence.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup boiling water (120 ml)
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp ceremonial-grade matcha powder
  • 1/3 cup liquid coconut milk like Aroy-D (80 ml)
  • 1 tbsp Brain Octane Oil or MCT oil or extra virgin coconut oil
  • Optional: 1-3 drops liquid Stevia or 1-2 tsp Allulose or Erythritol

Instructions:

  1. Start by mixing the matcha powder with boiling water. For best results, use a bamboo whisk or a milk frother to fully dissolve the matcha and create a smooth, frothy consistency.
  2. Stir in the Brain Octane Oil, MCT oil, or virgin coconut oil into the matcha mixture. Whisk or froth again to fully combine the oils with the matcha.
  3. Warm up the coconut milk (Aroy-D or another liquid coconut milk) and froth it using a milk frother. If you don't have one, you can also whisk the milk by hand or use a blender. Frothing the milk adds a creamy, airy texture to the latte (see thos recipe for more frothing options: Low-Carb Cappuccino.
  4. Pour the frothed coconut milk into your matcha mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  5. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a few drops of liquid Stevia, 1-2 teaspoons of Allulose, Erythritol or Swerve. You can also use sugar-free, allulose-base syrups - plain or hone-flavored. Adjust to your liking.
  6. Enjoy your matcha latte hot, or let it cool down for a refreshing iced version.

  2. Add erythritol and milk and stir well.
  3. DO NOT use hot boiling water!

Tips and Variations

  • New to Matcha? Start with just 1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder and adjust to your taste.
  • Choosing the Right Coconut Milk: Make sure to use a liquid coconut milk like Aroy-D for a smooth consistency.
  • Sweeteners: If you prefer your latte sweetened, you can use liquid Stevia, Allulose, Erythritol, or Swerve. You can also use sugar-free, allulose-base syrups - plain or hone-flavored.
  • Cold Version Tips: If you want to make an iced matcha latte, avoid using coconut oil as it can solidify in cold liquids.
  • Frothing Tips: For the best froth, use a milk frother, but you can also try using a blender or a bamboo whisk.
  • Dairy-Free Option: You can! I don’t eat dairy. Heavy cream is more neutral in taste than its alternatives, such as canned coconut milk. If you don’t mind the taste of coconut, go right ahead and use its canned version.

Iced Matcha Latte

Iced matcha lattes are one of my favorite go to iced drinks after dinner and I love making them dairy-free.

Ingredients:

  • Matcha powder
  • Monk fruit sweetener
  • Hot water
  • Macadamia nut milk
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Add the matcha powder and monk fruit sweetener into a small bowl.
  2. Carefully pour hot water over the mixture and stir using a matcha bamboo whisk in z motion for about 20 seconds.
  3. Take a glass cup, add an ice cube, and pour the macadamia nut milk over the ice and the matcha mixture.
  4. Make the matcha mixture the same way. Heat the macadamia nut milk in a small saucepan or a kettle. Pour the hot milk into a mug and add your matcha mixture.

The Keto Advantage

This keto matcha green tea latte is a great alternative to ice coffee. I used to be a heavy coffee drinker, but recently cut back to only one cup per day. One of my favorite summer drinks has always been iced coffee. Then, when I wanted a slightly sweet refreshment, I'd pour a cup over ice and heavy cream. Well, I've found that new beverage. It's a delicious iced keto matcha green tea latte. And, it whips up in a minute with only 3 ingredients!

Unlike many matcha lattes that use almond milk and sweeteners, this version swaps in creamy coconut milk and healthy fats to keep it fully keto.
