Keto Crispy Ham Rolls: A Delicious and Versatile Low-Carb Snack

Keto Crispy Ham Rolls are a delectable low-carb appetizer or snack that combines the savory goodness of ham with creamy cheese and a crispy coating. Perfect for those following a keto or low-carb diet, they make a fantastic party treat or a satisfying snack any time. In some areas, this keto creation is called Minnesota Sushi. While the origin of this name is unclear, this savory treat is a hit no matter where you’re from.

Why You'll Love These Keto Ham Rolls

Sometimes we need those brainless recipes that are so easy to make they take no thought, no real effort. These roll-ups are filling and don’t take any thinking. You can make them taste however you want! I love ham and cream cheese pinwheels!

These easy ham and cheese rolls are divine - salty, cheesy, puffy - and are hearty and filling - perfect for keto dieters. They are crispy like taquitos, but have the same filling ingredients as cream cheese pinwheels. I added jalapeno to them as a way to add some bursts of heat and flavor.

Easy to reheat and delicious hot or cold, ham and cheese pinwheels are absolutely ideal for meal prep and make the perfect fuss-free lunchbox treat. It’s also worth mentioning that ham and cream cheese roll-ups can be a wonderful snack to pack up in a covered container and take to school, work, or on the go.

Simple Recipe

Here are a couple tips and tricks to ensure the perfect bread-like texture even though we’re just using ham, cheese, and eggs to make this low carb bread roll.

Recipe 1: Keto Crispy Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups

This recipe utilizes a crispy cheese shell to encase the ham and cheese filling.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Form the cheese into 6 evenly sized circles on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake until the cheese is melted and slightly crispy.
  4. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  5. Wrap each cheese circle around ham.
  6. Enjoy!

Recipe 2: Hot Ham Roll-Ups with Cheese

This recipe involves frying ham and cheese roll-ups in butter for a crispy and savory snack.

Instructions:

  1. Place a tablespoon of butter in a non-stick skillet and let it melt on low heat.
  2. Wrap a piece of ham around a mozzarella cheese stick.
  3. Fry in the skillet until golden brown and crispy.

Recipe 3: Low Carb Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups (Fathead Dough)

This recipe uses a fathead dough to create a bread-like roll.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese and cream cheese. Heat in 30-second increments until cheese is completely melted. Stir the cheese so they are combined.
  3. In a second smaller bowl, combine the almond flour and baking powder. Mix until combined with the melted cheeses.
  4. When the almond flour and cheese are nearly combined add in a beaten egg white and stir well. Use your hands to work the dough to make sure the egg white is completely worked into the dough (no streaks of egg whites visible). If the dough seems too wet just add 1 tablespoon of almond flour at a time until it feels right.
  5. Lay the dough on a silicone baking sheet.
  6. Spread the dough out on parchment paper or a silpat in a thin and even layer - about 9" by 13".
  7. Lay slices of ham over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough up tightly lengthwise.
  9. Cut the ends off each side of the roll-up to even it out.
  10. Cut into rolls.
  11. While they are baking, melt the butter and mix it with the Dijon, Worcestershire, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  12. Take your rolls out of the oven and brush the glaze over top of them.

Recipe 4: Ham and Pickle Roll-Ups

Next, grab some cream cheese and mini dill pickles. Simply spread cream cheese on top of a slice of ham and sprinkle with seasoning (you can also soften your cream cheese first to make it easier to spread). Then tightly roll up the pickle in the slice of ham. Then you can slice your roll into 4-5 bite-size slices. I noticed it does help to place your wrap in the fridge first until cream cheese is firmer, but if you’re impatient, it will still work to slice right away (it just might not look as pretty). Lay one piece of ham out on a cutting board and spread cream cheese over the slice. Place a mini pickle at one end and tightly roll up. Slice wrap into four pieces creating pinwheels or sushi-like pieces. Sprinkle additional Everything Bagel seasoning over top if desired. This is such a pretty snack or appetizer, and they taste super yummy as well.

Tips and Variations

  • When you make these roll-ups, I suggest using ham and that sliced as thin as you can.
  • Can you use other types of deli meat? Yes, you sure can! I’m using ham lunch meat, but technically you can use turkey or roast beef.
  • These hot ham roll-ups are easy to customize with your favorite keto-friendly deli ham and cheese.
  • Feel free to experiment. You may choose to use ricotta cheese or a combination of cheese in place of the mozzarella cheese sticks.
  • If you like spicy foods, add some keto sweet and spicy canned chicken salad to the table with the roll-ups.
  • If you are worried about these rolls spreading out and flattening, try baking them in a muffin tin.
  • No, these rolls are super versatile and great both with and without sauce.
  • Ham and cheese rolls make a delicious wrap or bread for sandwiches - and luckily, it is incredibly easy to make these ham and cheese rolls into a soft, wrap-like keto bread.
  • This recipe is very simple and easily modified - you can bake it into a multitude of shapes, and use different ingredients to create the ultimate keto bread substitute you love!

Serving and Storing

I don’t recommend trying to store them and eat them later, unless you enjoy eating them cold. They will reheat in an air fryer or the oven, though. You can store the keto roll-ups in an airtight container in the fridge for as long as five days. I wouldn’t recommend freezing them.
