Why Cottage Cheese?
At the heart of this edible cookie dough is cottage cheese, a protein-packed ingredient that adds a creamy and luscious texture. It not only provides the perfect canvas for your cookie dough but also offers a protein boost that can keep your hunger at bay. Don’t let the cottage cheese scare you away… this is a viral recipe for a reason.
Key Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this high-protein edible cookie dough recipe:
- Cottage cheese: I don’t have a sub here as this is the key ingredient for the dough! This recipe uses full fat cottage cheese.
- Maple syrup: The syrup is used as a sweetener. This is the sweetener of the dough. You can sub in powdered sugar or powdered monk fruit. It adds a subtle sweetness without being too much.
- Vanilla extract
- Almond flour
- Vanilla protein powder: I love adding this in for flavor and more protein. I’m loving Truvani right now. This recipe uses my zero sugar protein powder as the base.
- Chocolate chips: Hu Baking Chips are my fave! This recipe also opts for zero sugar chocolate chips to help keep it in line with weight loss and wellness goals. Measure by the heart!

Tips & Troubleshooting
- Consistency: If your cookie dough seems thinner than expected, it could be due to the cottage cheese used. For a thicker dough, try using a denser cottage cheese like the Good Culture brand.
- Flavor Boost: For added depth of flavor, toast your almond flour in a pan over medium-low heat, stirring often, and keeping a close eye on it to prevent burning. Let it cool completely before mixing it into the wet ingredients.
Variations
If chocolate chips aren’t your thing or if you just want to try something else, I highly recommend peanut butter chips, cranberries, white chocolate chips, chopped-up peanut butter cups, or even mini m&m’s.
Storage Instructions
Store in an airtight container - refrigerate for up to 6 days or freeze for up to 2 months! Absolutely. Freezing this will make it last a little longer so place it in an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months. Place a sheet of parchment paper in a loaf pan.
