Why Make Your Own Keto Coffee Creamer?
Store-bought keto coffee creamers can be pricey, making it an expensive habit. Making your own at home is less expensive and astonishingly easy. Best of all, you get to control the ingredients, the flavors, and the level of sweetness. This low carb coffee creamer is infinitely adaptable to suit your palate.
Key Ingredients for Keto Coffee Creamer
Here’s a breakdown of the essential components for creating a delicious and keto-friendly coffee creamer:
- Heavy cream: Heavy cream forms the base of this keto creamer recipe. Alternatively, full-fat coconut milk can be used for a dairy-free option.
- Sweetener: A combination of allulose and Swerve Confectioners is recommended. The allulose helps make the creamy more syrupy. Other options include Erythritol, Stevia, Monk Fruit, or another alternative sweetener that has a very low glycemic index, is very low in carbohydrates, and is very low in calories.
- Collagen: Some collagen protein powder (aka collagen peptides) boosts the nutrition and thickens the creamer without the need for xanthan gum.
- Hemp or almond milk: To ensure the keto coffee creamer remains pourable and mixes easily with coffee, additional milk is needed. Any low-carb milk can be used.
- Extract or flavoring: This is where you can get creative and add various flavors. Vanilla extract is a classic choice.
Basic Keto Coffee Creamer Recipe (Liquid)
This recipe yields a creamy, sweet coffee addition with only 0.6g of carbs per 2 tablespoon serving.

Ingredients:
- Heavy cream
- Allulose and Swerve Confectioners (or preferred sweetener)
- Collagen protein powder
- Hemp or almond milk
- Vanilla extract (or other flavoring)
Instructions:
- Simmer the cream: Combine the cream and sweeteners in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to medium low.
- Add the vanilla bean (optional): Split open the vanilla bean, if using, and scrape out the seeds. Add the seeds and the pod to the pan and cover. Let steep 20 minutes, then remove the pod.
- Add the remaining ingredients: Whisk in the collagen, hemp milk, and vanilla extract.
- Taste and adjust: Taste and whisk in more sweetener if desired.
- Cool and store: Let cool completely. Then transfer to a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to a week. Shake before using.
Important Considerations:
- The cream needs to simmer for a bit to give the creamer the proper consistency, but don’t let it come to a full boil. Watch it carefully and make sure it’s bubbling around the edges the whole time. Adjust your heat up and down as needed.
- If you don’t want to use collagen, whisk in some glucomannan to give it the right consistency. Half a teaspoon should be sufficient. You can also use xanthan gum but it does have a tendency to clump more and to give a bit of a slimy quality.
- This makes quite a few servings so if you’re the only one in your house that uses creamer, make a half batch instead.
- I feel that allulose is the right sweetener to give the creamer a syrupy quality, and you could sweeten just with allulose if you like. Do watch it as it’s simmering, as it caramelizes faster than other sweeteners. You don’t want to accidentally make keto dulce de leche (although it is delicious!).
- I know that allulose isn’t available to everyone so you could really use almost any sweetener in this low carb coffee creamer. If you use all Swerve, make sure it’s the powdered version so it dissolves better. But even pure stevia or pure monk fruit extracts will work. NOTE: If you choose to use other sweeteners, I recommend adding it in Step 3, rather than simmering it with the cream. Sweeten to taste.
Flavor Variations for Liquid Keto Coffee Creamer
Get creative with your keto coffee creamer! You can vary the flavors easily with this basic recipe.
- Cinnamon Dolce: Add 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon in Step 3. You can also use cinnamon-flavored collagen.
- Hazelnut: Add 2 teaspoons of hazelnut extract in Step 3.
- Pumpkin Spice: Use Brown Swerve instead of the powdered version. Then add 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice in Step 3. You can also add 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree, if you like.
- Salted Caramel: Use salted caramel collagen instead of plain collagen. Then add 1 to 2 teaspoons of caramel extract in Step 3.
Basic Powdered Keto Coffee Creamer Recipe
This recipe offers a convenient, shelf-stable alternative to liquid creamers.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups Powdered Heavy Cream
- Keto acceptable alternative sweetener Options include Allulose, Erythritol, Stevia, Monk Fruit, or another alternative sweetener that has a very low glycemic index, is very low in carbohydrates, and is very low in calories.
- Optional Flavorings for Basic Powdered Coffee Creamer Recipe AboveVanilla Flavoring: 1 tbsp Vanilla powder or 1/2 vanilla bean pod Alternatively, you can use a Keto approved sweetener that you have scented with 1 vanilla bean pod over a few weeks.
Instructions:
- Put the powdered heavy cream into a large bowl and set aside.
- Add your sweetener of choice to a food processor, blender, or another electricl mixer, and pulverize the sweetener until it turns into a fine powder. (If you are using the small spice/coffee bean grinder, you will need to do this in multiple batches. See video.)
- Add your flavoring of choice to the powdered sweetener and pulverize for 30 seconds.
- Add the sweetener mixture to the bowl containing the powdered heavy cream and whisk together for approximately 30 seconds until fully blended.
- Transfer the mixture to an airtight jar and store in your pantry. This mixture has a shelf life of one year.
- To use your Keto powdered coffee creamer, add 1 teaspoon to an 8-12 ounce mug and pour in hot coffee.
Flavor Variations for Powdered Keto Coffee Creamer
If you want to flavor your powdered coffee creamer, that’s where the fun begins (or continues, as it’s fun to pick your sweetener too).
- Cocoa powder AND espresso powder for a delicious mocha coffee creamer and an extra kick of caffeine!
Storage Tips
- Liquid Creamer: Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to a week. If you don’t think you will use the whole batch in seven days, make a half batch instead.
- Powdered Creamer: Transfer the mixture to an airtight jar and store in your pantry. This mixture has a shelf life of one year. If you live in a very humid climate, you can include a food-grade silica gel pack in the jar with your coffee creamer to help keep out moisture.
Dairy-Free Keto Coffee Creamer
For dairy-free creamer, use coconut milk in place of the heavy cream. It works just as well as heavy cream.
Sweetener Options: A Detailed Look
This delicious creamer can be sweetened with almost anything. Allulose does make it more syrupy, similar to commercial coffee creamers, but it will still be delicious with other sweeteners.

After taste testing and experimenting with different alternative sweeteners, I like Allulose the best. I was surprised at what a clean flavor it had with no after taste. All these alternative sweeteners have a low glycemic index. They are also low in carbohydrates and calories. Some sweeteners have a cooling or minty taste, a few can upset the digestive system for some folks, and others actually prevent tooth decay! I recommend that you taste small amounts of each and see what agrees with you and what taste you enjoy the best for your creamer.
Additional Considerations
- Commercial Keto Creamers: There are a number of keto creamers on the market that you can use in your coffee. I like Perfect Keto’s new hazelnut creamer. However, it is much more cost efficient to make your own sugar free creamer at home. And it’s extremely easy too!
