This article provides a comprehensive guide to creating delicious keto burger sauces inspired by classic favorites like In-N-Out sauce and Big Mac sauce, along with tips and variations to suit your taste.

Why Keto Burger Sauce?

Making burgers on a keto diet is a fantastic way to enjoy a satisfying and affordable meal while staying within your macros. A great burger needs a great sauce, but many store-bought options are loaded with hidden sugars and unhealthy ingredients. Creating your own keto burger sauce allows you to control the ingredients, ensuring a sugar-free, gluten-free, and keto-friendly condiment.

Keto "Special Sauce"

This recipe is an easy way to jazz up some of your favorite keto fries (like Crispy Jicama Fries) or grilled keto radishes, this sauce is the ticket to taking an ordinary lettuce wrapped burger to the next level.

Buying this in the store makes little sense when the ingredients are pantry and fridge staples that you can easily throw together in 5 minutes or less. They dress up all your favorite "protein style" burgers (make mine a double double animal style any day).

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Avocado Mayo (or homemade keto mayo)
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar-Free Ketchup
  • 2 tsp. Mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • 2 Tbsp. Minced Dill Pickle (avoid sweet pickles)
  • 1 tbsp. Minced Onion (or grated)
  • 1-2 tsp. Pickle Juice
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayo, sugar-free ketchup, and mustard.
  2. Add the minced pickles, pickle juice, and minced onion.
  3. Finish with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Whisk to combine.
  4. For a thinner sauce, add a splash more pickle juice.
  5. Let it rest for 30 minutes or so to help meld the flavors!
  6. Serve on Keto Burgers with low carb jicama fries or other burgers and veggies.

Tips and Variations:

  1. Mayonnaise: While traditionally produced mayonnaise fits well inside the parameters of maintaining your Keto diet. However, there is the issue of processed foods. Mass produced mayo brands that you will typically come upon in restaurants, or the grocery store can be packed full of sugar which makes it carb-heavy.

  2. Sugar-Free Ketchup: There are a number of brands on the market these days but I typically find myself buying from Primal Kitchen. I know it’s keto, paleo, gluten free, sugar free, and whole 30 approved. I keep it on hand and a little goes a long way. You can find them on Amazon or find it at stores like Whole Foods too.

  3. Dill Pickle: Avoid sweetened pickles or pickle relish (traditionally used) because of the added sugars. Use a dill pickle and dice it in place of a relish to limit sugars but still get that classic flavor and crunch!

  4. Dill Pickle Juice: The juice acts as a bit of acid to break up the mayo base for this sauce/ dressing. Additionally, it thins it slightly and makes it easier for spreading and amplifies the flavor.

  5. Minced Onion (or grated): Add a little fresh onion (over onion powder) to add to flavor and texture. You can even grate the onion in to amplify the onion taste too.

Serving Suggestions:

  • As a side of dipping sauce for Keto Bacon Cheeseburger Kebabs
  • As the perfect copycat for a protein double double animal style homemade In N’ Out burger.
  • Cook up some ground beef, add some slices of cheese, and other burger toppings into a bowl and drizzle this over the top for an easy “burger-in-a-bowl” dinner with all the perfect macros and only 1 net carb per serving.
  • Whether its the low carb keto jicama fries I mentioned above or even on your favorite veggies (crispy brussels, roasted broccoli, and other favorite veggies).
  • Over a salmon burger or with chicken too.

Ingredients:

  • Unsweetened ketchup
  • Dijon mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Pickles

Instructions:

  1. Finely chopping up your own pickles is way better than using sweet pickle relish with added sugar!
  2. Once you've made the sauce, taste it and if you feel like it needs added salt, mix in ¼ teaspoon salt.

Tips and Variations:

  • If you don't want to use mayo, you can substitute in Greek yogurt. The texture and flavor will just be slightly different.
  • To spice it up, feel free to add in 1 teaspoon of hot sauce. Most hot sauces contain zero carbs, making it a keto-friendly addition to the sauce!
  • Make it extra tangy by mixing in a little extra pickle juice. Just make sure not to add too much, or the sauce will be too thin.
  • Dill pickle relish can be used in place of the pickles. Double check the ingredients for added sugars! Sweet relish will change the flavor and contains sugar.
  • Allow the secret sauce to rest for the flavors to meld.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Drizzled on a Keto Burger Bowl
  • As a topping on a burger or Cheeseburger Sliders.
  • As a dip for french fries or onion rings, it's even great with Sweet Potato Fries!
  • As a dip for fresh veggies like broccoli, carrots, celery, cucumbers, or peppers.
  • With these amazing Cheeseburger Egg Rolls.
  • Drizzle it over roasted veggies or Air Fryer Zucchini.
  • Drizzle it over eggs for breakfast.
  • As a topping for baked potatoes or roasted Sweet Potatoes.
  • Use it as a dressing for salads, try it with romaine lettuce, chicken, tomato, avocado, and onions.
  • Spread on your favorite sandwiches for an added burst of flavor.

  2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.

Tips and Variations:

"Not So Secret" Burger Sauce

This "Not So Secret" Burger Sauce recipe from my book Craveable Keto is delicious on just about everything - burgers, hot dogs, as a salad dressing, as a dip, you name it.

Ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Dijon mustard
  • Sriracha

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk all of the ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Add pickles.

Tips and Variations:

  • To keep this lower in carbs, look for a natural ketchup, or a reduced sugar ketchup. (This is the one that I use). Alternatively, you can use tomato paste.
  • Worcestershire adds a nice kick of umami to this burger sauce. You could also use coconut aminos or soy sauce.
  • If you do not have any Dijon mustard on hand, you could also use yellow mustard, sweet hot mustard, or stone ground mustard.
  • This gives the burger sauce a nice kick. If you do not have sriracha, you can substitute chili paste or hot sauce.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Whether you call it fry sauce, burger sauce, secret sauce, mac sauce, or any other name, this will definitely be your go to condiment.

Keto Big Mac Sauce (Thermomix Version)

The easiest (and tastiest) keto Big Mac Sauce. A firm favourite in my house and with loads of our readers! What is not to love when you can make your own Big Mac Sauce at home!

Ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Dill Pickles
  • Yellow Mustard

Instructions:

  1. Place all the ingredients into the mixer; mix 7 sec/speed 5.

Tips and Variations:

  • I recommend making your own. Many supermarket brands include seed oils and sugar. Using a keto mayonnaise recipe will eliminate any “nasties”.
  • I use Polski Ogorki dill pickles. They are sugar-free. Check the labels of any shop-bought brands to make sure they have no sugar added.
  • I use yellow American mustard or Australian mustard.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Keto Big Mac Salad use this keto special burger sauce in this super simple keto salad recipe.
  • The Best Keto Beef Burger serve this healthy big mac sauce with our easy keto beef burger.

General Tips

  • Storage: Store homemade condiments in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks. However, be sure to check the expiration date on the store-bought condiments you use to make the homemade recipe.
  • Adjusting Flavors: Taste and adjust the seasonings to your liking. Add more pickle juice for tanginess, hot sauce for heat, or herbs for freshness.
