Juno Temple, the English actress known for her roles in Ted Lasso and Fargo, has captured hearts with her talent, charm, and radiant energy. Over her almost 25 years in Hollywood, from her early role in 1997’s Vigo: Passion for Life to her recent success, Temple has undergone a personal transformation that includes not only physical changes but also a profound shift in her mindset regarding health, wellness, and self-love. This article delves into Juno Temple's journey, exploring her motivations, struggles, and triumphs.
Early Career and Recognition
Born on July 21, 1989, in London, Juno Temple is the daughter of film producer Amanda Pirie and film director Julien Temple. She began her acting career as a child, appearing in films such as Notes on a Scandal (2006), Atonement (2007), and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008). Her early performances garnered critical praise, with one reviewer noting her "petulance and angst" in Notes on a Scandal, and another calling her performance in Atonement "impressive."
Temple's career continued to flourish with roles in The Three Musketeers (2011), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Maleficent (2014), and Black Mass (2015). In 2013, she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award, solidifying her status as a promising talent in the industry.
The Role of Keeley Jones in Ted Lasso
Juno Temple's portrayal of Keeley Jones in the comedy series Ted Lasso (2020-2023) has been particularly significant. Jason Sudeikis, the creator of Ted Lasso, recognized Temple's ability to portray a character with surprising depth, stating that she could play a character that people would think was just one thing and then would really surprise you.
Temple has expressed her admiration for Keeley, emphasizing her positive influence and the show's refreshing portrayal of women. She told Variety in July 2021 that one of her favorite things about the character, who is the girlfriend of one of the players on the soccer team the show follows, is that she is really a force of good - and she isn’t cutthroat with the other women in the show. The show even helped her see aging in a different light within the entertainment industry.

Returning to set for Ted Lasso season three felt "epic," says Juno Temple."It felt like coming home," the actress tells Town & Country over Zoom. "It's like a safe place, seeing all these incredible faces that have guided you through this extraordinary experience-well, we've all guided each other, I guess, it's a proper team-all getting back together feels cozy, feels safe. Even when sometimes you're super nervous about a scene, everyone has each other's backs. There's a safety net around it, which is really awesome."
Keeley's Evolution and Impact
According to Temple, Keeley starts off thinking a certain way about herself and then, my God, what a turn that took! And I love that. And the fact that that came from Rebecca acknowledging that, a woman that she really looks up to and then becomes best friends with and who then guides her into being this little powerhouse is so spectacular. She notes that the actors receive scripts as they're going along, so you have to completely live in the moment when you're shooting, because you don't know what's happening next entirely-at all. I think that's something that really helps make the show what it is: You are existing in that moment and you're trusting the writers and the creators to tell the story.
Temple also mentioned that she heard whispering, a few little tidbits that Jason [Sudeikis] had mentioned to me, but also there's something in not knowing that I really trusted with this show, too. It really does make you exist in the present moment for it. None of it is overly rehearsed in your head. And, my information that I would get ahead of time would never be entirely precise, it would be a broad outline of where things might go.
When asked if Keely impacted you in your life in any way or changed anything about how you move through the world or perceive certain things, Temple replied that She's definitely taught me more about being kinder to myself. She's got such a light about her. I definitely hadn't done a lot of comedy work before this show-I wouldn't say that I play a comedy performance, so I don't really know what that means still. That's something I'm still learning.
She brought a lot more lightness than maybe I realized I could get from work. I mean, I love my job so much and I love working with different people in front of and behind camera and hair and makeup and wardrobe and I love the whole process. I have such deep respect for everyone that works on making film and television. It's such an amazing world to witness and to be a part of and collaborate with. I definitely feel innately I'm more dramatic, so that was something that I was really grateful for because she definitely brought a lot of light into my life in some dark-ish times.

Juno's Personal Transformation
In recent years, Juno Temple has shared glimpses into her personal transformation, revealing not just physical changes but also a shift in her overall mindset about health, wellness, and self-love. This transformation has resonated with many, as she embodies a refreshing approach to self-care and body acceptance.
A Holistic Approach to Health
Like many individuals, Juno Temple has experienced her own journey with self-image and body acceptance. Growing up in the public eye, she faced the pressures of the entertainment industry's often unrealistic beauty standards. However, she eventually realized the need for change and adopted a more holistic approach to her health.
"I had to come to a place where I stopped doing it for anyone else but myself," she explained in an interview. This pivotal shift marked the beginning of her focus on mindful eating, regular exercise, and mental well-being, understanding that true health extends beyond dieting or intense workout regimens. "I stopped thinking of it as a quick fix," she added.
Mindful Eating and Balanced Diet
One of the key aspects of Juno's transformation was changing her relationship with food. Instead of following restrictive diets, she began incorporating more whole foods into her meals, including vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins. This balanced approach allowed her to nourish her body without feeling deprived.
Regular Exercise and Enjoyable Activities
Complementing her balanced diet, Juno also prioritized regular exercise. However, she wasn't interested in punishing herself with intense workout sessions. Instead, she focused on activities that she genuinely enjoyed, making exercise a sustainable and enjoyable part of her lifestyle.

Prioritizing Mental Wellness
A crucial part of Juno Temple's weight loss journey is her focus on mental wellness. As someone who has openly discussed her experiences with mental health in the past, she recognizes the importance of caring for her mind alongside her body.
"I realized that mental health is just as important as physical health," she shared. "When I started taking care of myself mentally, everything else fell into place." This focus on mental health played a huge role in her ability to make lasting changes in her life.
Sharing Her Journey
In 2023, Juno Temple began posting more photos of herself on social media, giving fans a peek into her transformation. These weight loss photos weren't just a way of showing off her body-they were a reflection of her journey toward self-love and acceptance.
One of Juno's most powerful quotes about her weight loss was, "It's not about being perfect; it's about feeling comfortable in your own skin." This sentiment encapsulates her approach to health and wellness, emphasizing self-acceptance and body positivity.
Impact on Career and Personal Life

Juno's Practical and Realistic Approach
Juno Temple's approach to weight loss is refreshingly practical and realistic. Rather than focusing on quick fixes or temporary diets, she emphasizes balance, consistency, and self-compassion. Here are some of her key principles:
- Find a routine you love: "Exercise doesn't have to be a chore. Find activities that you genuinely enjoy and that fit into your lifestyle."
- Eat for your body, not the scale: "I stopped obsessing over every calorie. I focused on nourishing my body with whole, healthy foods."
- Prioritize mental health: "If you're not taking care of your mind, it's hard to take care of your body. Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you manage stress."
- Be kind to yourself: "There will be days when you slip up. That's okay. Just get back on track the next day and remember to be kind to yourself throughout the process."
Ted Lasso Season 3 and the Illusion of Work as a Panacea
The third season of Ted Lasso delves into some interesting themes, including the illusion of work as a distraction from grief and the importance of making space for relationships.
Season three of the hit Apple TV show, Ted Lasso begins with the titular protagonist - known for his endless optimism - looking miserable. Lasso, in London’s Heathrow airport to drop his son Henry to his flight back home to Kansas, is seemingly unsettled by the prospect of his son leaving, and even ends up almost missing the final call for his son’s departure. As the episode progresses, Lasso keeps wondering what he is doing, miles and miles away from his home, in a country he doesn’t recognize, coaching a team for a sport he doesn’t know. Elsewhere, Rebecca Welton, Lasso’s boss and the owner of the AFC Richmond football team, is anxious because every organization and expert covering football has predicted that her team will end up at the bottom of the Premier League table. However, what heightens Walton’s anxiety is the prediction that her ex-husband’s new team, West Ham United, would finish in the top four.
The show plays into the idea of using work as an often effective distraction from the grief - and other complex emotions - that one goes through after a separation. But as season three points out: that might not be the best idea. For all his optimism and kindness, Lasso forgets to be kind to himself and take the time to process his own grief, and it inadvertently ends up impacting his work.
The episode also explores how work itself may at times be at the root of separation, while also asking whether it is a serious enough reason to let go of love in the first place. In the ending moments of the previous season, the show had hinted at Roy Kent, former AFC Richmond star and presently an assistant coach for the side, and Keely Jones, former model and presently a PR manager, heading for a breakup as they both set to get busier with work. The couple finally decide to split in the first episode of the new season. While they seem to suggest to Phoebe, Kent’s niece, that they are doing it because they’ve both gotten “busier,” Phoebe doesn’t seem to entirely buy it, and later tells her uncle, “I think you’re doing a stupid thing.”
The show thus registers its opposition to the work-life dichotomy at exactly the right moment, when the zeitgeist is itself disillusioned with the failed promise of a healthy working life. In fact, Jones is shown to be doing exactly that, breaking down during a designated period because of her work.
Thus, the first episode of the new season of the show highlights the importance of making the space and time for relationships and love and life, and for making enough time to be able to process grief and pain.
