Kate Hudson's Diet and Workout Routine: A Balanced Approach to Health and Wellness

Kate Hudson, the 45-year-old actress, entrepreneur, and mother of three, is known for her phenomenal shape and dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Her approach to fitness and diet is all about balance, moderation, and listening to her body's needs. Instead of following strict rules or extreme diets, Hudson embraces flexibility and incorporates various workouts and nutritious choices into her daily routine.

Kate Hudson's Morning Routine

Hudson's morning routine is simple and consistent. "My morning is simple. I wake up, I move my body a bit. I have warm water and black coffee," Hudson told Women’s Health. She avoids taking pills and prefers natural ways to fuel her body. She doesn’t like to eat immediately after waking up.

Kate Hudson's Breakfast Choices

For breakfast, Hudson typically chooses between two options. "One is two soft-boiled eggs with some sourdough and butter and avocado with olive oil and sea salt," she shared with Harper’s BAZAAR. "Then, I’ll do an oatmeal with, like, almond butter and banana and maybe some blueberries, some maple syrup, cinnamon, chia seeds." She’ll also throw some type of nut in the mix-walnuts or almonds. “Walnuts are-I feel like they’re underrated,” she scoffed. “I feel like more people use almonds or cashews but a walnut? A walnut in your oatmeal is really yummy.”

Kate Hudson's Lunch Options

Lunch for Hudson is usually a salad or a smoothie. “A smoothie for me would be like a protein-based drink. I like the chocolatey type flavors, like banana and almond butter and chocolate,” she said. (Hudson actually just launched her own line of nutritional powders.)“If it’s a salad I’ll eat anything really,” she added, but a chopped salad is her favorite. “Here in L.A., La Scala is like a staple and they do the most amazing chopped salad; I do extra salami, no cheese, cucumbers, no tomatoes, basil and extra dressing.”

Kate Hudson's Dinner Preferences

One of Hudson's go-to meals she enjoys with her family is a nutmeg chicken with shallots. Additionally, Hudson likes to make sweet corn pasta-with pancetta, peas, corn, white wine, butter, olive oil, and cream-that her kids love. She tries to eat dinner with her kids. Which means she often eats early. “Rani eats around 5:30 but then my boys will eat around six so I try to get everybody to do between 5:30 and 6:00,” she said.

Kate Hudson's Balanced Diet

Kate Hudson's diet is all about balance. After she had her youngest daughter, Rani, she was more rigid and followed a Weight Watchers program (she’s a partner for the brand), but now, she embraces flexibility and grace. “I like living my life-I’m not highly regimented,” she told SELF in 2016. “I want to indulge! I want to do things that are not necessarily healthy sometimes.” That said, she still tries to start most mornings with celery juice, and always incorporates nutritious choices.

Kate Hudson's Indulgences

Hudson believes in enjoying life and indulging in her favorite foods occasionally. “If I want to go out and eat at a restaurant with amazing food, I’ll do that, like, once a week where I’m not thinking about it,” she told SELF. “I want to indulge!" She loves sparkling water and a good cocktail. Ice cream is her dessert of choice. But it has to be dairy-free. “My late night snack is always going to be in the ice cream department,” she said.

Kate Hudson's Exercise Routine

Kate Hudson is a firm believer in the importance of movement for both physical and mental well-being. "I need to be moving to feel good," she previously told People. "Even just making time for a little movement every day - going for a walk, doing a few minutes on the treadmill, some Pilates, or if I have more time for it, I love hot yoga." She always tries to find at least a half-hour to work out.

Kate Hudson's Love for Pilates

After discovering Pilates at 19 years old, Hudson is still a fan of the practice. “It’s the workout my body really responds to. It’s all about alignment, elongating your spine and strengthening your core. It makes me feel my strongest,” she previously told Shape, per PopSugar. While talking with Self about her love for Pilates, Hudson said nothing else "makes me feel like I’m back to my body" in quite the same way.

Kate Hudson's Strength Training

Before she started working out with personal trainer Brian Nguyen, Hudson never really emphasized strength training in her workouts. Then she realized it was the missing piece to a balanced routine. “One day, I tuned in and I was like … I don’t feel strong, I feel long and I love my Pilates but as I get older… am I doing enough (strength) exercises?,” she told TODAY.com earlier this year.

In a typical workout, Hudson and Nguyen incorporate a range of strength training resources, including planks, lunges, bodyweight squats and hip and glute bridges. While chatting with Shape, Nguyen explained that Hudson was initially hesitant to start strength training, especially heavy weight lifting.

Kate Hudson's Diverse Workouts

Hudson isn’t afraid of trying different workouts. Hudson’s fitness resume is filled with a plethora of different workouts ranging from boxing and hiking to Barry’s Bootcamp classes and pole dancing. Dancing is also one of her go-to ways to work up a sweat.

Kate Hudson's Nutrition Knowledge

Hudson has access to the best personal trainers and nutritionists, but she doesn’t rest on her laurels and let them do all the work. Instead, the star is “super passionate” about food and nutrition and encourages everyone to follow her lead. She prefers to use an app like MyFitnessPal to keep track of her meals and nutrients.

Kate Hudson's Pregnancy and Yoga

In 2019, Hudson took to Instagram to share a photo of herself practicing yoga, calling it a "huge part of supporting my pregnancy" and touting its "wonderful connective benefits.""I loved my practice with my growing belly and connecting to (my daughter's) beautiful spirit," she wrote.

Kate Hudson's Emphasis on Protein

You can’t achieve your fitness goals if you don’t feed your body with the nutrients it needs to perform. “Food is everything,” Hudson told TODAY.com earlier this year. “The food we eat is fuel for our body.” While visiting TODAY in Studio 1A, Hudson revealed the one nutrient she’s trying to consume more of these days. “We, especially women, should really be eating more protein, especially in the morning,” she said.

Kate Hudson's Community Support

Community holds her accountable. Because her routine is always changing, Hudson appreciates being part of wellness communities that keep her in line. “I’ve always said that community is essential to wellness, that’s why Fabletics is a community, that’s why I’ve partnered with WW, which has an amazing community of members who support each other,” she recently told E! News.
