Jesseca Dupart's Business Acumen

Jesseca Dupart's success extends beyond her personal fitness journey. She is a savvy businesswoman who has built a multi-million dollar empire through hard work, dedication, and a keen understanding of social media.

Building a Brand on Social Media

Dupart understands the importance of making connections. She cautions brands from copying what their competition is doing. She advises, “Focus on the things that are unique to you. Make the best use of that space by showcasing what makes you different.” For Dupart, growing up she didn’t see many CEOs who looked like her. The opportunity inspired her to break the rules and expectations and is the reason why she promotes diversity and encourages her followers to embrace the things that make them special. “Don’t be afraid to stand out,” Dupart adds. “The one piece of advice I constantly tell people is not to compare their brand to others," she declares. It's easy to get discouraged if you don't see immediate results and you're not pulling in a large number of likes, comments and shares or have a following of 100,000. “Keep in mind the same influencers you admire started off just like you," Dupart advises and encourages all startups to be consistent and get creative. Run your race at your own pace and don't compare your beginning stages to an established brand that has been operating for a while.

Dupart often provides opportunity for her audience to be featured on her social platforms. It speaks to her ability to promote and support other growing brands. “That’s why I love social media, it doesn’t matter what connections you have or don’t have. What really matters is how much you hustle,” Dupart says. She suggests curating the community that reflects the vision of your business. Creating a brand on social media can be unnerving and many are afraid to put themselves out there, but the one thing Dupart wishes people would realize is that their impact is bigger than their fear. "Your biggest critic is you. Somebody out there is in need of your story so it can push them to have their own success," states Dupart. She wants entrepreneurs and influencers to remember that they are inspirations too; just by trying they are encouraging someone else to take a chance.

Overcoming Adversity

Harris-Dupart may be the founder and CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, but the journey to success hasn’t been one without loss. The loss in question occurred almost a decade ago when her salon Kaleidoscope Hair Studio was destroyed in a fire. As devastating as it was, it propelled the New Orleans native to create Kaleidoscope Hair Products, now a multimillion-dollar company.“I truly feel that adversity is meant to propel you, and all things negative can somehow be turned positive as long as you stay in faith. The story quickly spread in my city, and we were gifted supplies from many different hair stylists. The outpour made me feel that it has to be better when I do come back because so many people were keeping up with the story, and I felt responsible for making people know that anything is possible. This has conditioned me to have resilience and not to emphasize material possessions because you can always get those things back. Upon my return, I had a grand opening where I launched Kaleidoscope Hair Products.”

Hair Care and Self-Care

Both Dupart and Da Brat have been making it their mission to provide for the community and supply hair care products that not only helps your hair look good, but keeps it healthy as well. With countless how-to videos on social media and the increase in hair influencers, it has been encouraged more for women to embrace their curls and coils. Being a natural girly cause for women to establish new hair care routines and hair experimentation, style wise. One thing that Dupart has expressed, is the misconception on how natural hair works for different people.

As Kaleidoscope Hair Products continues to grow and expand, so is the Dupart family. Earlier this year, the couple announced their pregnancy and recently revealed that they will be having a baby boy. When it comes to preparing for a new bundle of joy, it is important to pass down messages that you want children to remember for years to come. Judy: “I want it to be powerful and not be intimidating. I want our child to feel free with their hair and not feel restricted to stay in a box. Da Brat: “I would say that your hair represents who you are. So I would tell them to be yourself and live your life. Whatever style you want, do it. Don’t be afraid of what other people may say about it. And stay away from all these chemicals!!

Navigating the Natural Hair Journey

One thing that Dupart has expressed, is the misconception on how natural hair works for different people. “I think that some people are misinformed about the need to overuse products and not take into account maintaining a healthy diet. I feel like people will see someone style their hair a certain way and they do not take into account the type of hair they have or their hair care routine. I wish people would be more mindful that different products work for different people in different ways. You have to know what works for you individually.

Balancing Business and Personal Life

Running a business as a married couple, you can imagine there is always a need to find balance and practice self-care. Whatever routine you do for your hair that makes you feel extra special, is a form of self care. Judy: “People like to call it the wash and go, but it’s not that. I like to shampoo my hair a few times. Then, I deep condition it and blow dry it until it is 80% dry. After I blow dry it, I put the products on my hair to make it curly. The reason I do not try to bring out the curls while it’s wet is because your hair is at its shortest state. Da Brat: “I love my scalp being oiled. It is amazing [laughs].
