Fluffy Coke: A Sweet and Fizzy Twist on a Classic

Fluffy Coke is a fun, sweet twist on a classic Coca-Cola soda fountain drink. This simple, two-ingredient concoction has taken social media by storm, offering a unique take on the traditional soda experience. While some may view it with skepticism, this recipe, popularized by content creators like Emma Grace, has proven to be a delightful and nostalgic treat for all ages.

What is Fluffy Coke?

Fluffy Coke is similar to an ice cream float but still different. It is a sweet, bubbly drink made with just two key ingredients: Coca-Cola and marshmallow fluff. The marshmallow fluff, coated inside a glass, combines with the chilled Coke to create a creamy, rich beverage. The result is a sweet, fizzy dessert that tastes like marshmallow-flavored cola.

Ingredients

  • Coca-Cola: The classic soda provides the fizz and familiar taste. There are a lot of fun possibilities and soda options you can try in place of Coke. The marshmallow will work well with different soda flavors like root beer, Dr. Pepper, cream soda, orange soda, and Cherry Coke.
  • Marshmallow Fluff: This sweet and gooey spreadable concoction tastes like marshmallows, but no marshmallows are needed! I found that the actual Marshmallow Fluff brand works best for spreading. I do not recommend using the Jet Puff brand of marshmallow fluff as it doesn’t react the same as the Marshmallow Fluff brand.
  • Ice: While optional, ice is definitely suggested, chilling the Coke before use.

How to Make Fluffy Coke

This recipe is so simple. It starts with coating the inside of a glass with marshmallow fluff. Then, after the ice is added to the glass, Coke is poured over the top of the ice, creating a creamy, rich drink.

  1. Coat the Glass: Use a Small Spatula or spoon to apply the marshmallow fluff to the inside of the glass. It should wipe on smoothly. Rub it on like icing. I like to make a thicker layer so the fluff doesn’t just immediately dissolve once the Coke is poured in. Coat it all the way to the top of the glass. 1 Tablespoon at a time, using a small spatula or the back of a spoon, coat the inside of your glass with the marshmallow cream. Spread it down to a thin layer until the entire inside of the glass is coated.
  2. Add Ice: Fill the cup with ice. You don’t have to use ice if you don’t want to, but I definitely suggest the Coke be chilled before use.
  3. Pour in the Soda: Slowly pour the Coca-Cola over the top. Once it’s poured into the glass, start scraping the sides to get all of that sweetness in each sip!
  4. Serve: Top with a maraschino cherry and sip through a straw. There are endless ways to serve your Fluffy Coke so that it becomes the best soda for you!

Customizing Your Fluffy Coke

The amount of marshmallow fluff and ice you add are totally up to you. If you prefer more fluff and less ice, go for it. When making fluffy coke, feel free to use more marshmallow fluff, or less fluff.

  • Try different soda flavors: While this recipe was intended to be used with a Coca-Cola, I couldn’t help but imagine what this would be like with other soda flavors. Root beer? Orange soda? Cream soda?
  • Flavor the drink: Want to add more flavors to your fluffy Coke?
  • Add a cold foam top: Some videos of this viral recipe show people adding a cold foam top to their sodas to make the fluffy Coke even frothier.

Tips and Considerations

  • Marshmallow Fluff Brand: I found that the actual Marshmallow Fluff brand works best for spreading. I do not recommend using the Jet Puff brand of marshmallow fluff as it doesn’t react the same as the Marshmallow Fluff brand.
  • Avoid Storing: Do not store this fluffy coke once assembled. It’s disgusting if it’s left to sit in a fridge. Do not store this drink once mixed. It doesn’t keep.
  • Alternative Application: My only critique for this drink was smearing fluff around the edges of this cup. When you add the ice in, the fluff will freeze, making it difficult to stir into the soda when you first pour it. While it does melt over time and make the soda creamier (especially if it’s hot out), it takes some time. I think as an alternative, it might be better to simply dollop some marshmallow fluff inside of the cup without rimming the sides.

A Nostalgic Treat

This Fluffy Coke is an old-fashioned treat that has continued to be a favorite through the decades. However, many say they have had similar drinks for years, especially at drive-ins or a local drug store soda fountain, so it’s not a “new” trend for everyone. It is along the same lines as the popular ‘dirty soda’ that went viral in 2022, which combines soda with cream, flavored syrup, and sometimes fruit. However, fluffy Coke is made with marshmallow fluff (instead of cream), ice, and cola.
