Emily Simpson, a cast member on The Real Housewives of Orange County (RHOC), has openly shared her weight loss journey, which includes both the use of Ozempic and a dedicated fitness routine. Her transformation has been a topic of discussion among fans, with Simpson herself addressing both the positive and negative feedback she has received.
Reflecting on Her Transformation
In September 2023, Emily Simpson reflected on her journey, noting that around age 42, she gained 40 pounds. It wasn't until age 47 that she was able to lose the weight and feel like herself again. She emphasized that she always felt confident in her body, even while wearing a bathing suit on TV for five years. Simpson stated that she is currently the strongest she has ever been, both mentally and physically, and is committed to continuous self-improvement. She also expressed gratitude to those who have supported her and appreciation for the "haters" who motivate her to work harder.
Ozempic Use
Emily Simpson spoke with Us Weekly in July 2023 about using Ozempic as part of her weight loss journey. She recounted how, after filming wrapped in November 2022, she didn't recognize herself in a photo taken by the showrunner. She felt that she had neglected herself during those four months of filming, eating and drinking too much, and not exercising.
This prompted her to undergo a full blood panel during a doctor’s appointment, during which her doctor suggested trying Ozempic or a similar semaglutide. At the time, Emily was unfamiliar with Ozempic. Her doctor explained it as a new, FDA-approved weight loss drug that could help her lose weight and feel better, enabling her to resume working out. Emily started taking Ozempic in December, which she said improved her diet by making her feel unwell when eating unhealthy foods.
Exercise Routine
Emily Simpson's weight loss journey also involved a consistent exercise routine. She told Us Weekly in July that she cut out many things from her diet and started going to the gym seven days a week, working out as if she were training for a fitness competition.

Simpson has expressed frustration with those who attribute her weight loss solely to Ozempic, feeling that it diminishes the hard work she has put in at the gym. She regularly shares her workouts with her Instagram followers, including a February 28 video showcasing a combination workout of squats and tricep extensions.
Addressing Online Comments and Her Son's Diagnosis
Emily Simpson has also addressed negative comments online, particularly those suggesting her weight loss journey played a role in her son Luke's eating disorder. During the RHOC Season 19 premiere, Emily revealed that Luke was diagnosed with ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). She clarified that Luke's diagnosis has nothing to do with her losing or gaining weight and that it is unrelated to body image issues. She has sought answers and support, joining parental support groups for children with ARFID.
Hip Replacement Surgery and Fitness Journey
Prior to her weight loss journey involving Ozempic, Emily Simpson underwent hip replacement surgery. Two years prior, she experienced pain and stiffness in her left hip, which she initially believed was a pulled muscle. However, the pain worsened, impacting her daily life and eventually leading to a diagnosis of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS).
Before surgery, Emily pledged to lose weight to relieve pressure on her hip and move daily to combat arthritis. She joined a 12-week fitness program with trainer Paulina Taylor Hefferan, who helped her adapt exercises to accommodate her hip pain. She also cleaned up her diet, focusing on mindful eating and healthy food swaps.
In October, she underwent hip replacement surgery. Her orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Chris Mellano, noted that her hip wore out prematurely due to its abnormal shape. The surgery was successful, and Emily was able to resume an active lifestyle.

Future Fitness Goals
During an Instagram AMA in September 2023, a user asked Emily if she has ever considered doing a fitness competition, like her RHOC castmate Tamra Judge. Emily's response remains unconfirmed, but it highlights her dedication to fitness and her willingness to push herself.
