According to Chris Longyne from Vitagene's customer support, this is to ensure the information is easily understandable for consumers.

Vitagene also highlighted my Northern European genetic adaptation for lactose digestion, a fact I already knew. However, the company contradicted 23andMe's findings on caffeine metabolism, suggesting I am a slow metabolizer and should limit my intake. 23andMe, on the other hand, identified two genetic variants (CYP1A2 and AHR) indicating a higher-than-average coffee consumption, which aligns with my actual habits.

The conflicting results and lack of detailed explanations from Vitagene raise concerns about the reliability and scientific rigor of their recommendations.

Vitagene recommended a daily zinc supplement for "energy levels" and body weight, despite the fact that I do not have a zinc deficiency. The company also suggested a supplement derived from the African bush mango, Irvingia gabonensis, for weight control, cholesterol management, and blood sugar regulation.

However, a review of published studies on Irvingia gabonensis by the University of Exeter found the studies to be of poor quality, making it impossible to determine the supplement's effectiveness. The American Heart Association has also published studies questioning the efficacy of vitamins in preventing heart disease or cancer.

The recommendation of probiotics without specifying strains or providing a clear rationale further undermines Vitagene's credibility. While the probiotic market is booming, scientific evidence supporting many of the claims remains limited.
