- Consults registered dietitian for medical nutrition therapy intervention when poor patient diet comprehension is noted. Communicates patient needs to nursing team members, nutrition assistant, or registered dietitian as necessary.

Dietary Calculations and Preparation
- May calculate diabetic diets, using calculator, and following standards established by DIETITIAN, CLINICAL.
- May prepare and deliver formula and special nourishments to unit pantries.
- Prepares and distributes supplements, tube feedings, and enteral formula in an accurate and timely manner.
- May be responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory and management of human/donor milk and/or infant formula.
Clerical and Administrative Tasks
- Prints patient meal/diet reports from diet office computer system and hospital computer system as directed. Completes other clerical tasks as directed by Food Service Supervisor. Completes performance improvement monitors as directed.
- Maintains supply of hospitality folders with Directory of Services and Information About Your Diet pieces inserted. Inventories and orders patient menu and communication materials so appropriate inventory of these items are maintained. Enters floor stock data into hospital computer system in timely manner. Remains aware of disaster plan policy for meal service.
Ensuring Quality and Compliance
- Ensures patients menu selections are in compliance with prescribed diet order, nutritional adequacy, age, cultural background, and religious practice.
- Adheres to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient's rights policies.
