Christina Aguilera's Evolving Body Image: A Journey of Self-Acceptance

Christina Aguilera, a prominent figure in the public eye for many years, has openly discussed her weight and body image. The 43-year-old singer is now sharing how her body image has changed over time. She has addressed the pressures and scrutiny she faced, and how she has learned to embrace her body and prioritize her own self-acceptance.

Early Struggles with Body Image

Christina told Glamour that she struggled with people policing her body when she was younger and stopped watching late-night TV shows because of all of the jokes about her and her friends. She also had trouble with the fact that there was so much attention on her body when she was younger-and that it continued as she got older and her body changed.

In 2021, Christina said that she felt “insecure” about her body until she “started filling out a little bit” when she got older. “Entering this business, I hated being super skinny. Once I turned 21, I started filling out a little bit, and I was loving my new curves,” she told Health, per People. "I appreciated having a booty. I've always said that women are way more interesting to look at than men. I have a hard time looking at the early pictures of myself because I remember feeling so insecure.”

Christina told Glamour that a lot of her self-esteem when she was younger was based on “how skinny I was.” “When you’re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you’re in your 20s,” she said. “I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, ‘Oh, she’s getting thicker.’ Then I had industry people: ‘They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager.’”

Embracing Change and Blocking Out the Noise

Christina learned to block out the noise. “I have a maturity now where I just don’t give a f*ck about your opinion. I’m not going to take it on,” she said. “It must be your responsibility to take up your space. Other people’s opinions of me are not my business.”

On December 31, the singer reflected on her 2024 in a powerful Instagram post. The clip began with a series of comments-including notes reading "Who is that" and "That's not Christina are you serious?"-and then shifted to a series of highlights from her year. "This year, doing something a little different," she wrote. "This is a reminder to everyone that you are your OWN STORYTELLER in your OWN LIFE. No one else can dictate who you are. No one deserves an explanation. I am evolved enough to know that nothing comes easy and no one is perfect. Everyone will judge you. No matter WHAT you do. And/ or what you don’t do."

The 43-year-old then addressed how her body image has shifted over the years, writing, "Acceptance comes with accepting yourself first. And the difficult journey it takes sometimes to get there. I celebrate everyone taking the time to put one step in front of the next everyday in order to build the next version of themselves for the better. Allowing yourself grace, patience and respect…"

Health and Fitness

Christina hasn’t shared a ton about her eating plan lately, but she reportedly followed the 7-Day Color Diet at one point. With that eating plan, you have a different color of food each day of the week, rotating between white, red, green, orange, purple, yellow, and rainbow in that order. In addition to those colors, you have eggs, chicken, milk, and cheese. Christina shared with L’Officiel in 2020 that she no longer diets and just tries to eat whole foods.

Christina’s trainer opened up about the singer’s workouts after she had her son, Max. Among other things, her trainer told Glamour that Christina likes to lift heavy weights, do intervals, and toss in cardio, like jumping rope, stair climbing, or boxing.

Wanna get … sweaty?! Christina celebrated the 25th (yes, you read that right) anniversary of her self-titled debut album by getting toned and lifted at a special Barry’s class. The entertainer enjoyed a smoothie and she looked snatched in a semi-mesh black bodysuit.
