Benjy Bronk, a prominent writer for "The Howard Stern Show," has been a recurring topic of conversation, particularly regarding his fluctuating weight and attempts to adopt a healthier lifestyle. This article delves into Benjy's weight loss journey, exploring the discussions on the Stern Show, his dietary changes, exercise attempts, and the challenges he faces.
The On-Air Weight Discussions
The topic of Benjy Bronk's weight has been a recurring theme on "The Howard Stern Show." Howard Stern himself has often commented on Benjy's appearance, sometimes complimenting him on weight loss and other times expressing concern about his weight gain.
Tuesday morning, Howard complimented Benjy Bronk’s post-surgery appearance. This prompted a lengthy discussion about the Stern Show staffer’s eating habits, weight fluctuation, and exercise regimen.
Howard's initial compliment, "Hey, did you lose weight? You actually look good, Benjy," quickly turned into a humorous interrogation when Benjy revealed, "Um, actually, I’m a-I’m actually a couple pounds more than when I started the surgery." Howard lamented, “I ask the guy a fucking question, it was a 20 minute answer." Eventually, Howard learned that Benjy was actually three pounds heavier than when the two last saw each other back in March.
Fitness Attempts and Motivations
Despite the weight fluctuations, Benjy has made efforts to improve his fitness. JD, another Stern Show staffer, revealed that Benjy had texted him "out of the blue" about fitness and push-ups. JD said he wants to help Benjy, regardless of whether it’s all part of some schtick, and he’s taken to sending his co-worker motivational texts and stretching tips. He also sometimes watches Benjy do push-ups on Zoom and rates his performance.

Howard even put their skills to the test Monday morning, inviting a barefoot Benjy to do some push-ups on the air while JD evaluated him. Benjy complied, much to everyone’s delight, as his dog watched on. JD gave the performance a pretty good grade, too. “Actually, you know what? His back is pretty flat."
Dietary Changes and Challenges
Benjy's diet has also been a subject of discussion. He told Howard he’s no longer vegan, but he’s eating three 600-calorie meals a day, he’s cut out snacking, and he’s stopped binge eating entirely. Benjy also confirmed he sometimes leaves the oft-contentious Stern Show staff happy hours early to attend virtual Overeaters Anonymous meetings.
However, Benjy still faces challenges with his eating habits. Benjy Bronk recounted how he dug into a cake and just couldn’t stop eating it last night, which led Howard to note that the Stern Show writer has been looking bigger lately and since he is getting older should try to get his weight under control.
The High-Stakes Challenge
In an attempt to motivate himself, Benjy offered Howard a high-stakes challenge which would see him either lose the pounds or undergo a full sex change. “How far is Caitlyn [Jenner]?” he asked. “I would do whatever she’s done.” Robin named off a few applicable procedures including shaving down his Adam’s apple, getting breast implants, and maybe some facial reconstruction.
In the end though, Howard said he just wasn’t interested. “Just lose weight or don’t."

Benjy's Online Video Struggles
Beyond his weight loss journey, Benjy has also ventured into the world of online video, with less-than-stellar results. According to Hootsuite, “One-third of all online activity is spent watching video. By 2020, online video streaming will grow to more than 80% of all consumer Internet traffic."
So why are Benjy’s videos so horrible? What’s he doing wrong?
Lack of Promotion
He is on the most popular radio program of all time. Because of that, he’s got a rather large social media following so he should’ve used that to promote his broadcast. Get creative when you promote your broadcast.
Absence of Purpose
Benjy’s videos appear to go nowhere; He’s just winging it and you can tell. His previous video was about shopping for lettuce at midnight in NYC. A funny idea but since it wasn’t fleshed out, it didn’t work. Just because it’s a live video, doesn’t mean you can’t plan ahead. Saturday Night Live is shot live, and it's a great, tight, well produced show.
Poor Connection
It’s fairly obvious, but I figured I’d mention this because Benjy’s video connection kept cutting out because of a poor signal. When he patched a viewer in, it was even worse because they both had a bad connection.

Lack of Practice
Why not shoot a practice video?
Not Giving People What They Want
Do people really want to see Benjy talking to random people on the street with no purpose? No. Give your audience what they want. Howard Stern is the most successful broadcaster of all time and it’s not by accident. He does his homework before each show. Benjy doesn’t and it shows. He hopes that something funny will happen after he turns the camera on. Maybe it will, but there’s so much “dead time” that no one will still be watching when it happens. Think about what you want to accomplish, edit yourself, and always be thinking of your audience.
Age and Perspective
The discussions about Benjy's weight also touched on his age. Benjy first said he was 45, but Gary Dell’Abate called him out on the statement immediately, claiming that Benjy was 45 about seven years ago. It’s safe to say he’s somewhere in between.
