Losing weight and achieving a healthier lifestyle is a journey that many embark on, often filled with challenges and triumphs. The story of Anne Marie, along with her husband Tom, exemplifies a successful transformation achieved through dedication, a supportive partnership, and a holistic approach to health and fitness.
The Starting Point
Like many, Tom and Annemarie faced their own health challenges. Before starting Precision Nutrition Coaching in January 2010, Tom was pushing 325 pounds. Now he sits at a comfortable and athletic 205. And although Annemarie wasn’t obese like her husband, she changed her body by losing 25 pounds of fat. That’s a combined 145 pounds lost. Tom struggled with his weight, reaching a point where his health was a concern. Annemarie, worried about Tom's well-being, recognized the need for change. Tom experienced fatigue and relied on a machine to address sleep apnea. "I was very worried about him. I knew he needed to lose weight. That’s when she started going to the gym."
The Turning Point
The couple's journey began when Tom, after experiencing the benefits of improved sleep, gained the energy to address his health. Initially, Tom hired a trainer, but after eight months, he only lost 20 pounds. The turning point came when Tom discovered Precision Nutrition Coaching while searching for healthy recipes online.
Embracing a Holistic Approach
Tom and Annemarie adopted a comprehensive approach to weight loss, focusing on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes. They are a Type A couple, the kind who sit at upscale coffee shops with their matching Macbooks and itemized to-do lists.
Nutritional Strategies
Suffering through a diet is pointless. The couple initially delved deep into the program, meticulously planning their meals. “I swear we spent 30 hours that first week trying to figure all that stuff out,” says Tom.

Exercise Regimen
They fixed breakfast together and talked about the lessons over omelets and coffee. As the workouts progressed and the men’s and women’s programs changed, they’d meet at the gym then go their separate ways. In between sets of squats, Annemarie would spot Tom doing chin-ups in the corner.
The Power of Partnership
Working together proved to be a crucial element of their success. For me, this is the first time I’ve interviewed a couple. “We’ll just start from beginning,” says Annemarie. They supported each other, shared their experiences, and celebrated their achievements. “It’s not just accountability - it’s about becoming a part of a community that’s based on change and support. And working through it with your partner or just seeing what people on the forums are doing, you recognize everyone’s struggles and successes.
The Results
Tom and Annemarie's dedication and hard work paid off significantly. Tom lost over 100 pounds and transformed his body into a more athletic physique. Annemarie shed 25 pounds of fat, improving her overall health and well-being. But it wasn’t just their bodies that changed.
Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
Tom and Annemarie integrated healthy habits into their daily routine. You see, a block from their apartment in Vancouver is a harbor. For 30 minutes they paddled, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. They talked about their Precision Nutrition Coaching journey and what their next steps are. The sun, the water, the fresh, clean air. When they got to the market, Tom got out first and tied the boat to the dock.

Overcoming Challenges and Criticisms
Tom encountered skepticism and negativity from others who felt uncomfortable with his weight loss. One day Tom is walking through the halls of his office building. So far, he’s lost over 100 pounds. “Listen,” the guy tells Tom. “You better stop losing so much weight. “Your successful weight loss is making us uncomfortable because it means that change is possible." However, he found encouragement from close friends, family, and especially Annemarie, who understood his struggles.
